Joe Calzaghe certainly did call out Pavlik...a lot. It's on youtube somewhere as well where Calzaghe says "At the end of the day, I want Pavlik. He comes to fight, I come to fight, we have great styles. I want to fight Pavlik in America.'
In a long dead thread, Boo had predicted Kelly would hit Joe coming in with his head low much the way RJJ actually did. RJJ was late on the punch, otherwise it would have been worse for JC. Kelly has shorter punches and they don't put you down on the first strike so you stand there and take more punishement. So........
Styles make fights. There is no way that Calzaghe stops Pavlik. He is a bonified slapper with fantastic endurance.
Pavlik failed to maintain his status as an attractive opponent when he was exposed by Hopkins. He still needs a few years and a few big fights (not Mora) to increase his standing again, time which Calzaghe doesn't have.
Pavlik waz exposed by Hopkins!!?? if u say dat, then u also have 2 say Calzaghe waz exposed by Hopkin,Cuz Joe def lost dat fight,B-hop waz robbed!!
Joe also has some very bad habits that might cause him serious trouble against Pavlik. Namely charging in all squared up with his head down winging wide, sloppy shots, shoe shining to the head and face with his ENTIRE body wide open, wide open for right hands everytime he goes to the body with his left, et, et. However, no one will ever convince the calzombies that Joe had many exploitable flaws.
Maybe the word exposed has too negative connotations to you and others on this forum. I didn't mean much by it. Comment on the rest of the argument. Do you really feel he was still an attractive opponent, one that could enhance JC's legacy, after losing the way he did against Hopkins?
Are you really so far out of touch that you do not realize that Calzaghe ****ing RETIRED before Pavlik/Hopkins? Jesus H Christ man! Calzaghe spent 6 months calling KP out, and then fired his promoter for trying to make a fight with Pavlik, fought shot to **** roy, and then retired BEFORE Hopkins/Pavlik was even on the radar! Try to keep up.
Had Joe beaten Kelly, most would have said he was picking on a smaller guy. They might have had a case, seeing how Bernard dismantled Pavlik.
Calzaghe pretty much hinted towards retirement with Hopkins. He kept saying that the will to train was gone and he wasn't looking for his career to last much longer. Then he started hyping up a fight with Pavlik...then he wound up fighting a guy he proclaimed as shot as all hell in RJJ. I think Calzaghe realized that the time was up and just decided to pack it in.
Hopkins made a career out of it though (right or wrong) so no, it wouldn't of been that. You're trying to justify something with stupid reasons. Stop trying so hard, the easier options are there.
And Pavlik was offering no solid arguments for him to reconsider. Calzaghe didn't have to choose between Pavlik and Jones. He could have retired after Hopkins. His choice was between immediate retirement or a fight with Roy Jones Jr. and then retirement. So what if he mentioned Pavlik when he wasn't yet sure what path he would take? He didn't want to close all doors before making a decision. But is it a fight Joe would have gotten up for? Would Pavlik have enhanced Calzaghe's legacy?
