Were Jefferson or Nicholson ranked in the Ring's Top10 when Wlad beat them?

I'm talking about Derrick Jefferson and Danell Nicholson.

I read in the Classic forum that Jefferson was ranked in the Ring's Top10 when Wlad beat him. But I doubt it.

    Does anyone know?

Jefferson was in the top 10 in 1999, but he had dropped out by 2001, which was when Wlad beat him. I guess it could be spun that Wlad beat a former top 10 contender in Jefferson.

To my knowledge, Nicholson was never close to the top 10.

Absolutely right, Jefferson was The Ring #9 in 1999 and a bit of a HBO darling, but fell out when he had that shattering loss to Izon in Jan 2000. The Maskaev loss 4 months later compounded it.

Nicholson got himself up to being the IBF #3 based off little more than collecting a lot of victories over journeymen and no-hopers. He was in that IBF mini-tournament (Tua vs Nicholson, Byrd vs Mo Harris) in 2001, but after boxing well got kersplatted by Tua and that was pretty much it for him. He was never rated by The Ring as far as I know.

I still wonder how Jeremy Williams managed to KO Nicholson in two rounds. A lot of harder punching guys took much longer.
