The reality is Dubois has been consistently testing himself where as Hrgovic has been mega complacent over the last two years and has obviously been over hyped without much substance behind it. Dubois is young, he's been stopped twice, he's used to rebuilding himself and chasing the mandatory shots. What was a gimme fight for Usyk now looks very solid and will go down as one of his best victories. Fury, AJ, Dubois, Chisora.
We also have to acknowledge that Usyk's power is underrated and he's faster than Hrgovic and Dubois didn't see his shots coming. Usyk has hurt Belly, AJ and Dubois with single shots and either got them out of there, come within a whisker of doing so, or come close to doing so. We told you that all those SHW giants in the WSB he fought respected or felt his power and he stopped 2 of them Here he is stopping a tough 263lb Eric Brechlin in three rounds in the WSB albeit Brechlin's corner threw in the towel (after three standing counts) but the 260lb or roughly in that vicinity absolutely murderous punching Makhmudov was taken the five round distance by the same Brechlin. And Brechlin took plenty of big shots and didn't run from him. Brechlin also lasted the distance against Hrgovic in the WSB and AJ in the amateurs Timestamped This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected Here he is stopping the 277lb Italian Belly Modugno in 3 rounds, including dropping him twice This content is protected Modugno lasted into the 4th in the WSB against the 6'6'' 240lb Joe Joyce only losing that one on a cut eye, which AFAIA is the only other time he's been stopped. This content is protected Usyk 211lbs - Nistor 233lbs Usyk 213lbs - Modugno 277lbs Usyk 210lbs - Majidov 235lbs Usyk 211lbs - Joyce 238lbs Usyk 209lbs - Brechlin 263lbs Usyk 208lbs - Fa 246lbs So Usyk actually has a long track record of not only slaying giants but hurting them
No. It obvious the guy had no idea how to defend himself. No head movement, no hands up. Dude takes way too many punches to the head and hopefully it won't mean issues as he gets old. He's only 26 and has been smashed around a lot.
He took 8+ proper straight rights in round 1 alone. Fight should have been ended there in normal circumstances. He has youth on his side and is in unbelievable shape. Really great chin for now.
Not really, I picked Dubois to win, because I thought Hrgovic's power was overrated. He never properly stunned Zhang, and that TKO against McKean was a bit premature and it took him 12 rounds to pull that off. Dubois' chin has never been that bad, he took haymakers from Miller for 10 rounds, and a ramrod pulverizing jab from Joyce for 9 rounds and only quit because his eye was about to pop out, and even though he was stopped by Usyk and Fury and AJ weren't, Usyk hurt AJ and Fury far more than he did Dubois. And like @Serge said, Hrgovic lacks the speed and unpredictability of an Usyk. So Dubois quickly acclimated to and braced himself for the power, aided immeasurably by Hrgovic throwing everything at the same speed. By the 5th, the gassy Hrgovic was running on fumes, and his punches had lost most of their pop. Dubois instead of getting in his head and allowing himself to spiral (a rare instance where being a dope paid off), assessed the situation properly, he realized going 9 against Joyce and Usyk, and beating Miller ain't too shabby, his chin ain't that bad, so it gave him the confidence he needed to find his level and to be the face first rock 'em sock 'em defenseless robot he was destined to be. But if he does that **** against AJ, he won't see round 2.
100% Hrgovic has been fighting bums while Dubois has been chasing the best, I think Dubois will win the title one day and be a excellent champion, goes to show you don't need to pad a record until your 30+ like alot of boxers, you can take a couple losses early and still reach the peak which I'm back Dubois to do, I think he could even KO AJ.
