I think he was better than fairly good. People talk about Davey Moore or other guys. Hill was the real deal. A exceptional champ Hall of fame champ. Great fighter? Probably not, but Hall of fame..

This was a case where Hill wanted to be a legend and saw Hearns and saw him underperform in fights against Kinchen and Olajide where Tommy just wanted the knockout and looked sloppy, so he thought well if I get that Hearns I can counter him with the left hook and I beat a legend. Easy fight he thought. He made a mistake which happens when guys want to fight legends. He like Bobby Czyz and others wanted Hearns when he got older, yet they expected the sloppy Hearns in some other fights. Then when they get a more prepared Hearns, they lose. It happens in boxing history. Guys want the top guys at the right time. He called out Hearns for years. Davey Moore against Duran or Barkley against Duran not that I am comparing them to Hill, they underestimated Duran. You cannot underestimate a legend ever. And that is why I picked Duran to beat Barkley. I knew he had enough for a guy who fought on the inside like Barkley. Duran loves those kinds of fights and Hearns loves jabbing. So Hill or Barkley underestimated legends. It is a risky thing to see a legendary guy look bad vs. average guys and think, well I will get that same guy. Usually not.

I favored Hill going into the bout. I was surprised at the fight itself and the outcome. Hill had the skills to win but fought an overly cautious fight and did not use the tools to change tactics.

I don't think he expected Hearns to be as fast as he was and with that jab. He never dealt with that sort of combination and it seemed to shake him up where he sat back and who knows what he was waiting for. He really didn't have the skills to beat even this older Hearns. I think with Hill, if he can outjab anyone he can win. He would have beaten Sugar Ray Leonard easily at 175..

Hill was s great fighter. Funny how people leave out his win over Maske who was unbeaten .
Or how he was the only fighter to beat Tiozzo.
Or how he won the cruiserweight title .
Or how if not for getting knocked down he would have beaten Moremeck.

I agree with this. In my view, the win ranks as a TOP 3 career win for Hearns.

Yes I was impressed .Hearns looked as if he was slipping whilst Hill had numerous defence s to his name .The last time Tommy had won the light heavy belt had been a good few year's since against Andries but Hill was a lot more respected as a titlist.
I predicted a late round ko loss for Tommy so ,yep very surprised .
