It seems he is, yeah. So a move up would be good. Also, more pertinently, WW is very strong at the moment, the top end is pretty much locked down with really good fighters, he's not going to compete with that level of talent. JMW is a bit more open with some guys who are past it but still recognizable names, there's more room for him to be successful there.
First half of the 7th was Horn's last hurrah. he started that round well but then let it slip away with inactivity in the 2nd half of the round, he let Bud win that round but he could have won that round if he didn't stop punching.
I’ve tried to explain to him but he is adamant it was a competitive fight up until the 8th. He was out classed in the first 5, out muscled in the 6th/7th and getting beaten up in the 8th/9th.
The fight was over before it started. Your dislike for Crawford and inability to "analyze" boxing just kept you from realizing it.
Horn fights too sporadically, instead of going for these little bursts he should have tried to put sustained pressure on Crawford, jump in, but instead of smothering your own work by getting too close too quickly, try and just stay in the mid range, take him to the ropes, try and do some work on there. Try and NOT get into the clinches. But that's kinda his style unfortunately.
Bud was winning and was the far more talented fighter, but Horn was keeping it relatively close until the 8th / 9th. It wasn't just a complete domination like many people are trying to make it seem like it was.
Look what Crawford does to opponents like Postol and Diaz and you will see he makes them look far worse than they really are. Horn is not great but he also is not as bad as he looked last night. He did not have the skill to beat Crawford. Crawford can fight you coming at you, counterpunching, left handed or right. Most fighters have to fight a certain way and if it does not work they are in trouble. Crawford has a Plan B and is skilled enough to pull it off
Good point. But Horn doesn't seem to have the stamina to pull that off. Maybe if he moves to 154, as others have suggested. And maybe if he finds a new trainer, to learn some offensive variations.
I’ll just agree to disagree, to me I saw someone get completely undressed, you saw a one sided competitive fight. Fair enough.
What rounds did you have Horn winning? Crawford beat him every round and the power punch count was 120+ to 58. If you call not getting hurt until 8 and 9 "relatively close" you are correct
If he moves to 154 he would not be able to beat one top 10 guy. Austin trout would school horn. Horn needs to find a way to stay at 147 where the guys are little that is the only way he can do anything of note.
It’s pointless, he thinks horn had the chance of a late rally taken away from him. When really he only had the chance of him getting stretched out taken away from him.
Name me another boxer who got a world championship bout in his 2nd fight. Because of his long amateur career he was given opportunity that no other professional boxer has received. No disrespect but Olympic Gold medalists like Oscar Dela Hoya and Sugar Ray Leonard had to work their way through the weight classes and did not get to start at the top
I'm not really making that argument, I just considered the stoppage premature and questionable. Again we saw a similar situation with the Pacquiao fight. The ref almost stopped it and he did have a late rally in him that won him the fight. As a fight fan, for an undefeated fighter to get stopped without being knocked out leaves you with an inconclusive unsatisfying finish. Crawford wasn't really landing bombs on him either, it just looked like Horn was exhausted rather than being hit with big shots. It honestly reminded me of the Mayweather stoppage of McGregor just due to exhaustion rather than one fighter pummelling another fighter, and that's more indicative of a fighter's stamina being affected by cutting weight. And again, I care about the health and safety of the fighter and I'm not trying to crucify the ref for trying to protect the fighter. Horn has showed that he was able to recouperate between rounds so he may have been able to continue if he got through that round.
