Who was Crawford fighting in his second pro fight? Hell in his first 15 fights only 3 had winning records.
I and many others considered it a premature stoppage. That doesn't mean I want to see him get hurt or I don't care about the safety of the fighter. You can care about the fighter's safety and say a stoppage is premature. I'm not going to crucify the ref for stepping in but I don't have to accept it as a good stoppage. We seen what happened in the Pacquiao fight. The ref almost stopped it there too and while watching that 9th round no one thought Horn had a prayer of winning that fight, but he came out in the 10th and came on in the last 3 rounds and won the fight. This is boxing, stuff like that can happen. Ever seen Chavez Meldrick Taylor Round 12 or Chavez Martinez Round 12?
I was impressed, but at the same time, I don't rate Horn. And after Crawford I rate him even less, he has no skills at all. Can't fight on the outside to save his life, no jab, no technique nothing, just bum rush and spoil. Hate these kind of fighters.
Well yeah WW Canelo from 10 years ago vs Bud from last night, maybe Bud would have a chance. Hell, a 30 year old prime Bud probably should be able to outbox a 17 year old up-and-coming Canelo. It probably would be a hell of a fight, but that just goes to show how much bigger and better Canelo is by and large. If you take Current Middleweight Canelo vs Bud from 10 years ago, Canelo would have annihilated Lightweight Bud. It's a hypothetical.
Then how the heck did he beat Pacquiao? Oh, right Pacquiao was shot and robbed. Or was he? Maybe Horn is just a much better fighter in Australia.
How can you compare Chavez vs Taylor to Crawford vs Horn, Chavez was a p4p fighter at that time, is Horn a heavy handed p4p fighter? Taylor was silly all he had to do at that point was box, he was more physically gifted than he was mentally gifted. Again Crawford can’t be compared to a 38 y/o Martinez, maybe you could use that excuse for why horn vs pac should of continued but Horn vs Bud is a whole different scenario
You're missing the overall point : that this is boxing. Anything can happen. Especially when you have a guy that is tough as nails like Horn, undefeated, never been stopped, and his biggest win came when the ref almost stopped the fight after the 9th vs Pacquiao, but decided to let it go on, and he ended up winning that fight against all odds ! You surely get my point, that if the ref didn't step in WE DON'T KNOW what would have happened. Could Horn have been KTFO? MAYBE. Could Horn have survived and gone the distance? MAYBE. Could Horn have suvivived and launched a late rally? MAYBE. See we don't know what would have happened. I'm not gonna sit here and crucify the ref. But was it a questionable premature stoppage? ABSOLUTELY. This is Prize Fighting not ballet. Maybe the ref saved Horn from further punishment so I understand the argument to protect the fighter. But Horn is tough as nails and I've seen fighters allowed to fight on after taking much more punishment and looking much worse than Horn did.
Horn lucked out with Pacquiao, yes Pacquiao was way past his prime, he wasn't totally shot but he was clearly one foot out the door. But that alone isn't the only reason. It was a stylistically favorable fight for Horn at that stage of Pac's career, Pac couldn't anymore deal with someone having such a physical advantage who's being allowed to rough house him and bully him in the ring. Also, I don't like overrating fighters based off of one win, a true champion can prove he can hang with the best on multiple occasions, how do you see Horn doing against WW elite? I honestly think he'd get destroyed by Spence, Thurman and Garcia at the very least.
I get your point if we’re talking about a fight like Flannagan vs Hooker where it’s close fight or if we were talking about a heavy handed fighter like Lemieux being dominated in which one big punch of his could change things. However this isn’t one of those scenarios, this more like a Eubank vs Blackwell or Groves vs Gutknetcht scenario where the fighter being dominated is just tough but he is taking an absolute pasting at that point. Could Byrd have let Horn see out the round and see how he starts in the 10th sure but it really didn’t make a difference to me.
I think he'd put up a good fight vs those guys, he might last the distance, but would probably end up losing. I think he'd have a much better chance if he fought those guys in Australia, but would still probably lose to those guys. He might be able to win a decision vs Shawn Porter or Kell Brook. I think Horn might be better suited for 154, I think he's been having problems cutting weight. I thought he looked drained and depleted of energy vs Bud. It wasn't the best version of himself. Surely the body shots took their toll, but even as he was walking to the ring he didn't look at full energy. He just looked like he hadn't been eating properly to make weight, while Bud was moving up so he was getting full meals to put on weight.
He wasn't being dominated. He was doing well in the first half of the 7th round, then he let that round slip away in the 2nd half. Then Bud started stepping on the gas in the 8th. For the first 7 rounds it was not a domination at all. Bud was winning but it was competitive. Many people also thought Pacquiao was beating Horn clearly as well, and the ref was ready to stop it after Pacquiao started taking over in the 9th much like Bud started taking over in the 9th.
Don't see him lasting the distance with Spence or Thurman, I think it'd go even worse for him than the Crawford fight because those guys are real WW power punchers. Thurman I think has a chance to literally KHTFO. The style that Horn employs, it may work against an old guy, but it's not going to work at all against guys in their prime with far more talent who are as big as he is. I think Shawn Porter is better at doing what he does. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that after this, you'll seldom hear from Horn. He's gonna go now, beat one or two gatekeeper level guys, will probably struggle with those even, might get another big fight, lose badly and retire.
