I thought Grachev had virtually no chance of winning. Sillakh had all the advantages: amateur background, pro experience, height.

Grachev's arms were so much shorter most of his punches simply couldn't reach Sillakh.

But props to Denis Grachev, he has the heart of a lion. :good

Bit of both. He was behind on points and getting schooled for the first seven by Sillakh, but was beginning to find a way to connect with the right hand as the fight progressed. Part of the reason for the turnaround was because Sillakh lost focus; but another part was because Grachev managed to stay positive and kept trying, even in the face of severe adversity.

Anyway, Denis's power, heart, undefeated record and victory over an undefeated hotshot means that he's getting a least one or two big fights in the future, and depending on how he's matched, he might be a fairly live dog in a couple of cases.

    pros

power, chin, heart, never gave up and found a way to land

when you can stay in a fight where you are down and you find a way to land on a guy much better than you and are smart enough on how to finish the guy onces hes hurt you have a chance

you see lots of guys who dont know how to land their power shot or give up when they dont

    cons

lacks in skill departments, telegraphs it all, head is up

kinda reminds me of hatton, gives away his punches and never moves his head

its a recipe for disaster that Sillakah didnt take advantage of
or you see guys who land the one bomb and cant finish

    Savvy assessment, KK.

Does it put to bed once and for all that an MMAer would stand a chance in a boxing match with a top contender?

If Sillakh needed a learning fight, this was it. No way did I expect against Grachev though, I thought it would have been against Despaigne.

Good someone can see it this way.
Maybe a learning lesson in the hardest way? If not in this fight it would have happen sooner or later. Now we really see if he got heart of a champ or heart to become a champ if he comes back as a better fighter.

Knew Sillakh had a weak chin, did not think this guy would be able to crack it because he doesn't have world class power and I figured Sillakh wouldn't let him touch him.

    Very surprised.

If you had told me that Grochev KO'd Sillahk before the fight. I would be shocked, but just how the fight progressed, it wasn't too surprising, but it was still surprising. If you know what I mean? Sillahk was in Lennox Lewis mode ala versus Hasim Rahman I. He wasn't focused, bouncing off the ropes, hands down. And, plus, the last couple of rounds Grochev started getting to Sillahk was was getting closer in closer. Plus, with Sillakh's chin, there is/was always a possibility of him getting stopped.

As for Grochev's future, I don't think it's bright at all. I think this is what his career will be remembered for. Knocking out that undefeated prospect (who may or may not go on for bigger and better things) who was unfocused and didn't take this fight seriously. Grochev is too crude, too sloppy, and just not refined at all. All credit to him though, let him have his moment, but this, I think, will end up being one of those one hit wonder we see every once in awhile in boxing.

Yes, very surprised especially since he'd been hit with R hands several times earlier in the fight. I was most surprised that he let Grachev hang around long enough to gain the confidence to even try to make it a fight.

Sillakh will be back, stornger and better than ever.:deal

Totally stunned me. Reminded me of Lee-Vera I, which is a fight Andy had no business losing. Grachev reminds me of a lesser Diaconu.

Like Vera knocking out Lee, I think this will be the highlight of Grachev's career. But damn, I have to tip my cap at anyone who fights through getting beat like that over the course of a fight to overcome it and get the late knockout.

    Big time props to Grachev.
