AUSTRALIA TO HOLD ITS FIRST WBO FEMALE CHAMPIONSHIP By Salven L. Lagumbay - PhilBoxing.com - 6th Oct 2010 Australia is set to host its first ever World Boxing Organization (WBO)-sanctioned female championship bout when CDL Boxing Promotions presents the much-awaited "Western Alliance II" featuring Erin McGowan of Australia and Lyndsey Scragg of the United Kingdom for the WBO female lightweight crown on October 9. The bout takes place at the Joondalup Arena in Joondalup, Western Australia, and promoter Ty Colman is expecting a good crowd to witness this exciting match-up laden with explosive undercard bouts. Local star Mcgowan, undefeated in 13 bouts with 7 KO's, is expected to have her hands full in this ten-round dukeout with Scragg, who is a comparatively more experienced fighter with a record of 10-2, 3 KO's but whose two defeats came at the championship level, bowing only to Kina Malpartida (WBA superfeatherweight title) in late 2009 and Jelena Mrdjenovich (WBC superfeatherweight) in 2008. "The WBO expects another night of championship caliber fight, as we always do, and hope to solidify our presence in Australia with this very important event," said WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, who will personally supervise the bout. The co-feature will pit Daniel Dawson against Frank Loporto for the PABA light middleweight title, while Robbie Bryant takes on Jeremy Allan for the Western Australia light middleweight state championship. The card will also feature David Letizia, Albert Howell as well as Andy Green's return to the ring. According to promoter Ty Colman, a press conference will be hosted on October 8, Friday, 12 noon at the South Freemantle Football Club, while the official weigh-in takes place later in the day 6PM at the Sunmoon Resort along 200 West Coast Highway, Scarborough. Doors open on fight day starting at 5PM on Saturday at Arena Joondalup along Kennedy Drive.
