How about this one. I made a thread about it in the lounge. It got one reply:- http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126153 God bless the poster Fatcity.
You dont really need to know much about boxing to sound off to other ****s who know **** all. It's not like there are a lot of complicated rules, it's not hard to point out that one guy is smacking the **** out of another, and from there it isnt a giant leap to declare said fighter better than so-and-so, who fought decades ago.
At his peak i'd much rather have had Kewell in my team than Speed. They were both very good players in totally different ways - Kewell was a brilliant striker who burned out by his early 20s and Speed was a fantastically consistent and durable midfielder who played for the best part of 20 years. Just think there were more guys around who could do what Speed did at his peak than there were who could do what Kewell did.
Ha! I wouldnt mind, but for weeks/months before the fight I was convinced of nothing other than a Floyd UD. Then, the weekend of the fight, I found myself caught up the hysteria of it all and was 110% confident that Hatton was gonna stop him. Lost a fair bit of $$ on that fight. To be fair, it wasnt my money to begin with as I'd won it all playing poker, but it still smarts.
Exact same scenario! The hype of the fight completely carried me away in the week of the build-up and I got so caught up in it I was convinced Hatton was the man to beat Floyd. The worst thing about it was that it lumped me with all the other know-nothings who were constantly telling me Ricky was the GOAT. atsch Taught me not to let my heart rule my head!
Hatton-Maweather was the fight that got me into boxing. i had no intrest in it before. i have to admit, i was one of the knobs who got actually hooked on the whole fight and build up (i swear sky sports news were all over it), i was buzzing watching 24/7, looking at both records (and the fact i was a pure boxing novice) i was completley convinced that Hatton was going to win, i didnt think it was possible for him to lose. i kicked off in PE A level when my teacher said Mayweather would be too good/clever for Hatton (thus proving i was one of the wankers that this thread is about) what a reality check the whole fight was. it hit me that i new **** all about boxing. its easy to get caught up in the media hype when you have no clue.
A guy I used to work with told me how one time his daughter came home with a new boyfriend. When the boyfriend found out that his girlfriend's father was interested in boxing he attempted to engage him in conversation by asking "So, do you think Ali would of beaten Bruno then?" The father refused to speak to him after that!!
One of my mates asked who was better out of the Hatton brothers after watching Matt Hatton win the euro crown on FNF. i publicaly humiliated him until he gave in and wrote a personal letter of apology to Matt for being so disrepectful.
Ha! I had a similar experience with a UFC fan. I told him that I wasnt really into UFC but I wasnt one of these nobheads who thought any boxer would be able to beat every UFC star. I tried to be diplomatic and said things like "I realise that there are different skills involved in the two sports and I dont think being good at one necessarily translates to being good at the other. I've just never really been entertained by a UFC fight". He then told me about some random UFC fighter whose name escapes me and said "yeah, but he's the best striker in the UFC and I reckon he'd be able to knock out most boxers". :think ... Me; "So, you into football?"
Should see it as a blessing in disguise, if Hatton destroyed Mayweather (don't laugh) then most if not all the uneducated folk will run their mouths off. You would have drifted away until Hatton fights again because he's 'the greatest'.
