What’s the latest on Murat Gassiev

And I'm wondering about Otto Wallin.

Wallin and Gassiev are best heavyweights in the world.

 

He's still plodding forward with a high guard waiting to throw punches somewhere.

I have no knowledge but it would not shock me if he retired. He threw the hook a bit more in the Wallin fight, but there was nothing in it. He and two things...big power and a fine arsenal. The arsenal is gone and his power is reduced to the right hand.

 

He's ****.

 

Gassiev was just overrated

 

It's only been 4 1/2 months since he fought. In this day and age that is less than the normal time between fights for higher rated fighters. Wallin showed him that heavyweight may be a bit ambitious and he probably doesn't want to go back to cruiserweight. He's only 30 so I am sure he'll be back. Perhaps in the summer as a bridgerweight.

 

He's officially "Armenian" now and also has the WBA supercruiser to fight form, but the WBC does not give Russian fighters title shots and he might catch some of their racism in trying to fight for the actual Bridgerweight belt. Not sure how they work it.

 

I forgot all about the super cruiserweight belt. Good to see Gassiev may have options.

 

Why was his last fight in Turkey instead of Russia? He probably got paid peanuts in that fight

 

These 2 have avid worshippers, although they are dreadful boxers.

 

In what world are they dreadful boxers? Wallin is solid, while Gassiev was a world class cruiserweight and a world champion with wins of Dorticos and Lebdev. How do you manage to make so many terrible takes?

 

It’s been over 5 years since the Usyk loss and he has done nothing at HW.

He has been injured and pulled out of some decent fights but then isn’t “injured” when he is due to face a lower level HW.

Looks like at this point he either retires or becomes a journeyman for up and comers.

 

Murat is actually good boxer with great power and hand speed.
He just dont have lucky and health problems stop his career.

Going for hw also not best idea because his advantages from Cruiser disapear with this bigger boys.

If I will be on his place I would try attack bridger category for now.
His fight with Łukasz Różański can be very good.
But he must be healthy. No idea if it still possibile.

If he want continue his hw try they should find him slower dudes on feet, or boxer who come forward to him. His footwork just dont good enough to find distance vs higher mobile boxers. That's why he lost to Wallin.

Its shame that we never see his fight with Mairis Briedis. That will be great fight for silver medal in cruserweight after Oleksander Usyk back then.
