have to be realistically within his era.

i guess he could have fought jones, had he beaten him when jones a champ it would have been a great upset.

    These fights were possible

    Frankie Liles
    Bruno Girad
    Svenn Ottke
Glen Johnson at SMW or LHW (05)
    Roy Jones around 01/02
    Woods around 05/06
    Tarver around 06
    Bute around 07/08
    Pavlik after Lockett
    Taylor after Pavlik II
    Dawson
    BHop 2
    Carl Froch

if he beat any 3 of those he would have got further respect.

hmmm dirrell. he would have been seriously old by this point, but ye a victory over a young hungry fight s always a good thing. perhaps dawson would have been better tho.

I wish he had fought Pavlik and destroyed him before Hopkins did it. Also then Dawson. The roy jones fight was completely unneccesarry and did nothing for his legacy.

taylor after pavlik 2? froch dont get much credit for that so i dont see hoe joe would.

pavlik ye, would have been good.

bute was very green when they were around.

make it easier for me lol and just narrow down to 3.

    Ottke
    Hopkins
    Jones Jnr

I'm talking about prime versions of Roy and Hop obviously. Whether the fights were feasable, or whether it was Joe's fault they didn't happen, I don't know - I'd just like to have seen them.

I think he would have beaten Ottke comprehensively but it would just have been good to see someone beat him and actually get the decision.

Dirrell and Froch would get outclassed.

Johnson had his chance but lost to Sheika, so sheika got the shot at calzaghe.

I don't think younger Hopkins vs younger Calzaghe would have been that much different, given their styles and that they weren't shopworn.

Hmm... A few years the other side, it would have been war with Collins, Benn and DM.

Didn't Calzaghe sign to fight Johnson two or three times, only to oull out of the fights with injuries?

Shame that fight never happened. I think Joe would have beaten him and it would be a quality win on his resume.

I think so, the sheika loss was pretty controversial too.

I'm not sure. Before their fight, I was of the opinion that Calzaghe would always have beaten Hopkins but the way their fight unfolded changed my mind.

Hopkins wasn't shot or anything but he couldn't fight at the pace he did back in '99-'02. Joe's style and activity would pose trouble to anyone but if it was a peak Hopkins, able to throw more counters and not almost collapsing from exhaustion by the end, I think you end up with a lot more rounds like the first two.

Ottke - would be a decent scalp imo, no chance of Ottke coming out of Germany for it though, his trainer admitted Sven had no interest in Joe.
Pavlik - would have been as one sided as Lacy, and would have got a **** load of credit for it.
Froch - A true grudge match which would have got a lot of interest in the UK.

    prime jones
    Dawson
    Glen Johnson
Liles-but he only had a window of 1.5 years for this to happen as Liles would lose to Mitchell
