This is a bout between Mark Kaylor of England and Dwight 'Tiger' Walker of the US. The vid shows rounds 6,8,9 and 10. I had watched this bout over the weekend and posted it in the scorecard thread, but to tell you the truth, it deserves a topic of its own. Man, one rarely sees an uncontrollable cut like this with this kind of blood-letting and not only doesn't get stopped but the doctor isn't even called in to check it out. I'm not naive, I know not stopping it is in the favor of the hometowner, but the ref isn't a doctor and should think of the fighter's future well-being, especially with it over the eye. What makes it even more unusual, it is the very staunch Harry Gibbs that lets it go on. Even with Kaylor's white shorts now pink and Gibbs' shirt and sleeves both pink. One should check out his handling of Bugner v Wepner on youtube. Wepner is cut in the 3rd and just as Wepner's handlers start to address it, Gibbs stops the bout. He wouldn't even give them a chance to do their thing. Also if one checks out Winstone v Seki, Roland Dakin practically stops it in Winstone's favor just as blood starts to seep from the most minute cut. So there is no correlation on how the cut is being handled. I think the only other fight I've seen go on with bad cuts was Chacon v Edwards II. Your thoughts on this?

Reminds me a little bit of the Gerry Cooney-Jimmy Young fight, where Cooney tore open Jimmy's face with a straight right hand and referee Tony Perez let it go on, despite Young bleeding profusely. Jimmy's corner stopped the bleeding momentarily, but Cooney opened up the cut just seconds into the following round. It was an absolute blood bath, with Gerry's trunks turning pinkish as well. The doctor did stop the fight (mercifully) after the fourth round, so it's nowhere near as bad as the fight you're highlighting, but thought I'd share regardless. Boxing was and is a brutal sport, that's for sure.

What I always remembered about that fight was Young saying to his corner or the ref, “I can’t see a thing!” Never saw Cooney use the jab so effectively.
