Remember the fight well even though it seems ages ago. All of my mates and me wanted Watson to win, gutted when he was knocked out, **** scared when it became obvious he had a big problem. How ****in well as he done to come back from that and achieve what he has. Someone said here Watson was the best of the 3 and they could well be right, although i think Benn has the best performance in the bag for the Mclellan war. I also remember the Mccallum scrap very well, watson was one brave mother****er that night and was up against a beast. He was still waving mcallum in when it was obvious he was ****ed. Brave **** in every way.
@atberry - Nice one mate good reads them. I vividly remember 4 of us were around my mates and there was only me who wanted Watson to win. At the age of 14-15 it was the proverbial rollercoaster watching that fight and i got some stick when Eubank came back to win. Obviously that soon stopped when Watson didn't look too clever. I haven't seen it since but did have a look about last year on YT and the web but couldn't find it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. If anyone's got a link to it i'd appreciate it.
You have a boxing channel on youtube correct? I watched Mccallum-Curry on your channel yesterday, much appreciated great quality too. Also watched Kalambay-Mccallum I. Harol and Kalambay rematch tonight probably.
I really thought Eubank was going to do a thorough job on Watson in the rematch - I knew what he was capable of from watching his sparring sessions with Rod Douglas and Errol Christie, ripping 5-6 shot combos and knowing he left Herol Graham unconscious in 30 seconds (and was centimetres or split-seconds from stopping Benn in the 2nd round having only taken 1 or 2 punches himself in the fight)... and I knew the higher weight would suit him strongly, as he looked sensational against stocky hands-high marauders Simon Collins and Denys Cronin at that weight earlier in his career. Watson fought out of his skin that night. So did Eubank. So Watson must've been borderline superhuman or something.

I remember this back in the day, me and my older brother willing Watson on to win and I remember the tide turning and thinking Eubank was lucky, in retrospect Eubank was just a hard mofo who I think always had the measure of Benn and Watson. They were great fight's growing up to, after following Duran, Hearns, hagler and Leonard before, it was just a good time if you were a boxing fan and the fights were on normal TV so the fighters were better known. Good times.
I must say, what Watson did to Ricky Stackhouse was quite impressive, because he looked good against Duran and Graham and gave them issues. Watson really tears through a solid fighter.
