Same **** happens everywhere, bad ref bad judges for Wilder vs Ortiz too I'm not saying the judges scores weren't too wide or the ref didn't suck ass, but the same **** happens no matter where you go. Parker did lose the fight 100%, but he should have been given credit for 2-3 more rounds then he was on the judges cards. Not quite as bad as calling a TKO on a foul, or scoring 10-2 for Canelo over GGG, or even giving Wilder time to recover from being hurt badly and having him winning a fight that he legit won 2 rounds out of 9 against Ortiz. Which has all happened in the US in the last 12 months but still.
The referee ruined the fight! Every time they would start to mix it up, the ref would stop the action! I have no problem with Joshua winning a very razor thin decision, but those scores were insane! Hell, it could have been called a draw! There was no clear winner in this fight at all, they did not fight, they just posed, threw jabs, not significant punches landed by either! Boring as hell! Hell, if Golovkin/ El Pollo was a draw, then what in the hell was this?! Golovkin won the fight, but both Joshua and Parker lost. I think Povetkin would beat them both, plus Wilder!
I did notice and haven't seen people pointing out how Joshua was legit throwing uppercuts on multiple clear ref breaks in the mid-late rounds. If Parker was doing that? This site would still be crashed.
I didnt see the referee protecting Joshua from anything. If you felt he broke it up a bit quick when they were on each others chests fair enough but both were looking to fight inside, both had some sucess when fighting inside. It did not seem to favour Joshua. The ref was aware that Parker was rushing in with the heads going close and he had his eye on that too. Other than that he should of let it go a bit when they were close up i dont really see what he did wrong.
This. That tape did more damage to Parker's face than any of Joshua's punches. Parker took at least 3 flush uppercuts from Joshua on the breaks. On one of those you could tell Parker was pissed and tried to retaliate, but the ref jumped right in.
In hindsight a British ref would’ve been better. But all you cry babies wanted a neutral one and you got Luigi who didn’t have a clue. He ruined good work from both fighters.
They need to make sure this guy is demoted to refereeing highschool boxing only in the future. Who the hell had the idea to put this beginner in a $40 million fight in front of 80,000?
Yeah the ref broke them apart every time Parker got inside, well, so what? He simply proved that Parker's outside game is weak. How can the World Heavyweight Champion in 2018 not know how to fight in mid to long range? The way I see it, the ref simply saved us all alot of time and trouble of seeing another fluke champion, which of course depends on if, IF Parker could have won on the inside. What is the point of a Parker victory when he wouldve gotten outboxed by Wilder, Ortiz, even Joshua a few months later? The way I see it, people are whining about a technicality when in the long run a Joshua win, with or without referee intervention, was most beneficial.
The ref was totally incompetent but lets be honest here he was preventing both fighters from working on the inside. Fact is both Parker and Joshua were basically fighting a 3rd man in there half the time, the ref was jumping in at every opportunity and prevented a much better fight from unfolding. This is very typical of continental refs from Europe they treat pro fights like amateur fights and get involved far too much breaking up the natural rhythm of a fight. Never seen a ref ignore loose tape for so long, it's not like there wasn't a natural break in the action for him to sort it out, he must have stopped the fight a million times for other infractions.
Wow this forum decided who the ref should be. Was there a poll? I would have voted for Weeks so watching Parker getting nutpunched into submission would have been fun...
The referee definitely didn't do a good job. It might be the lack of experience but he would cut the infighting in the middle.
The correct application of tape is NOT rocket science. Any time a boxer's tape becomes loose to an interfering degree, there should be a one-point deduction from the fighter. A second instance in the same bout ought to merit a DQ. I'll bet that then you would see a lot less of that careless workmanship.
