Notice Joshua's tape kept coming loose but the ref wouldn't stop to have it fixed, after one attack by parker Joshua motioned to the ref about parkers head and then pointed to his tape, the ref took him to get it re- taped. Joshua was troubled and the tape ploy was pre planned so as to give him an out when he needed it.
Amazing - you would really have to be flying under the radar in this day and age. Hearn needs to sort this **** out, not the first time.
I agree but not with the DQ part. Could you imagine the out cry if a fighter like AJ lost that fight by dq? All hell would break loose and would turn people away from he sport. In most pro sports the top participants are 100% professional in all aspects of their sport but not boxing. How difficult is it to get a hold of some decent tape and apply it properly which means when you cut it you keep your grubby fingers off the end and press it down on to the back of the tape which is also free of contaminants. If a point was taken for loose tape you would never see a loose tape ever again. Some one said it was a tactic from AJ's people but I don't know about that when at one stage he removed it himself. When the second removed it after the fight it was like unraveling a ball of string. It was just **** tape. A ref could be liable for failing to act if an eye injury or something was caused by a loose tape.
I thought that he could have lectured them some more. He could have broken out some folding chairs and a little table for a proper discussion of the state of affairs. I'm not convinced that he did all he could to stop the action.
The ref was terrible for both guys and was just a awful ref full stop. lol@ at this guy being pro matchroom. Both Hearn and Higgins said they made a mistake signing off on him , and everybody else involved pretty much said he was a disgrace. Nobody wanted that ref , not Hearn , Joshua or Parker. It takes a serious level of hate to spin this as if he was a matchroom plant. Do people not remember that he called a time out and warned Joshua for throwing an uppercut at Parker?? From there on , Joshua was looking at him as they were in close thinking - what am i meant to do now? I though he was going to get knocked himself out at one stage they way he was rushing in to break them from going at it. Its proven that Joshua can , wants and enjoys the tussle on the inside and this ref robbed both men of the opportunity. You have to be blind or stupid to think any side wanted that ref in there .
That's not right. It's the responsibility of the fighters corner, usually the trainer to wrap the hands and tape the gloves. There may be a commission rep their to oversee the process and there may be someone from the opposite corner present to make sure there is no funny business going on then the ref will usually sign off. In some places there may be a steward to sign off but all the taping is done by the fighters team.
