I'm watching Ray Leonard speak on Ringside about his battles with Duran, Haggler and Hearns. Makes me think what a shite period of boxing we are in. Thank God for warriors like Carl Froch. Brave man willing to fight anyone. **** Mayweather and Pacquiao and anyone who associated with them for not making this fight.

Leonard/Hagler nearly did not happen. By the time Leonard/Hearns had their rematch both were considered way past it, ditto Duran/LeonardIII.

The 80s was an exceptional era, IMO the finest, but there are plenty of excellent fighters around today that in 25/30 years time people will be bemoaning are not fighting in their era. Not least the three you mention.

Everyone always thinks boxing has gone the pan and isn't as good as it used to be. It's been that way for as long as there's been boxing.

Ya none of these guys got criticism when they were fighting. Fighters from back in the day did nothing wrong

    I beg to differ...

I appreciate you are being flippant, and to a point you have an argument, in that today's fighters are under the most scrutiny in the history of the sport. But still 'back in the day' fighters were panned, and there was a presumption the sport had seen 'better days' and the current crop did not measure up.

What eminentair moans about is nothing new, indeed, it has always been that way.

Boxers got panned plenty in the "old days" its just that most of it was in magazine and newspaper articles rather than conveniently available on YouTube, forums or books. ie. its hard to find these days.

Good fights and bad fights in every era. We just get to see so many fights these days with the internet and cable channels etc so we are bound to see alot of bad ones.

This was epic what ever era!!

I'm not doubting the quality of fights that the hardcore boxing fans sees but the mainstream fights that aren't happening ie PAC Mayweather. Haye Vladimir was shite. Hopefully Chavez Martinez will restore some credibilty.

Haye-Wlad was a strange one because people were desperate to see the fight and going mental when it wasn't happening but stylistically there was always every chance that it was going to be a dull affair.

My one main gripe which is just inside the topic boundaries here , is that there is just simply too much politics and concern by all parties in making the " right fight " , the Top Rank Golden Boy feud is quite literally sucking the life out of the sport

If every promoter was like Lou Di Bella , Gary Shaw and Eddie Hearn we'd have very few problems in making the fights the boxing fan deserves to see

A few examples , we still haven't gotten Mayweather Pacquiao , Bradley Khan has yet to materialise , Canelo hasn't fought a genuine Jr MW contender yet and he's considered a super star in the sport , Juanma Gamboa (unfortunately been and gone now) , Donaire Rigondeaux (never going to happen !!!!) , Ward Dawson (Chad Dawson a ****ing huge Light Leavy is coming down to 168 !!!!!!!! ludicrous) , the list goes on ........................

Fighters are way to precious and promotional companies are ****ing corrupt , this at the moment is whats turing me off boxing :deal
