Yesterday I rewatched Chavez vs Alli and realised that it wasn't the main event. I checked the card and was surprised at how many big names were fighting on the same bill.

    Lennox Lewis vs Tony Tucker.

Julio Cesar Chavez vs Terrence Alli.

    Gerald McClennan vs Julian Jackson.

    Hector Camacho vs Eric Podolak.

    Meldrick Taylor vs Henry Hughes.

    Oba Carr vs Eriberto Valdez.

    Thomas Tate vs Eddie Hall.

The top three fights were all quality and entertaining with Lewis making his first title defence, Chavez defending his light welter belt for the twelfth time, and McClelland and Jackson trading bombs for the middle weight belt.

Camacho was making his comeback after losing to Chavez and Taylor, with a few losses including the controversial Chavez fight, was chasing another world title.

Carr and Tate, if I remember, later became belt holders or at least fought for world titles.

That's three world title fights and six big names all boxing on the same bill.

We don't get cards like that anymore.

Does anyone know of a card more stacked than this?

Yep, Don King was/is a dick but he put good cards together. Today's promoters could learn a thing or two.

I forget what fight it was, but I'll always remember JCC after one fight laughing and hugging Don King and saying, "DON KING IS MY FATHER!!!."

Chavez must have been making nothing before he met Don.

Don was only able to make those cards because he was such a crook and paid his fighters so little. the reason we don't have cards like that now is because fighters actually get paid what they should as a fan i'd love those type of cards but not if it means the fighters won't earn a fair purse.

Maybe the only way he could afford to put such extravagant cards together was to steal money from his fighters. :think

And maybe he is just a far superior promoter to Bob Arum and actually gave boxing fans competitive cards.

Paperagent: If you have evidence of Don King doing what you allege, please share it with the board. If you are just talking **** with no facts to support your assertions: shut the hell up.

Those were great days for boxing fans. Stacked PPV cards, and easy to steal anyway with black boxes.

I think this turned out to be the best of those DKP PPV cards in the mid 90s.

The Rematches might have been better on paper, but the fights here turned out very good.

Trinidad-Campas was an excellent short war between two young undefeated WWs. Chavez-Taylor 2 was actually a very good fight, underrated. Although it was basically a case of "who had declined more?", it was entertaining, with a great 6th round.

Ruelas impressed me against Leija, particularly with his agility and how low he could get to avoid shots. Those KDs were beautiful to watch too.

Undercards have dipped so much in quality.

It's crazy to think that fights like Wilfredo Gomez-Lupe Pintor was an undercard fight. That was a great fight in a great year in boxing.

Simon Brown-Maurice Blocker was on the undercard of Tyson-Ruddock 1. That was a WW unification bout, as an undercard. Really good fight too, one of the best WW fights of the 90s
