I never understood why anybody would pay 50$ to see ANY fight, maybe if these geniuses would stop doing that, boxing could get back to being a mainstream sport. But unfortunately that's asking to much it seems...

In all fairness boxing was on PPV during the latter part of the 80's which happens to coincide with the time many Americans acquired cable. There was no way in Hell you were gonna sit in your house and catch a glimpse of Tyson vs Spinks (and lo and behold a glimpse was all anyone was gonna get) without coughin' up some hard-earned cash. And if by "nation-wide television" you mean broadcast TV then, sir, you are sadly mistaken. Although we did see many fights - and great ones at that - on broadcast television, many, pardon me, most of the great fights of the era were broadcast on premium cable to whomever was lucky enough to have it.

Like you, I do wish that there was an outlet for boxing such as ABC's Wide World of Sports here on broadcast TV in the 21st century. And as you said, it is not to be.

Well you clearly speak from experience, I was born in the 80's so I can't really dispute that. I just remember seeing some of the Hearns, Duran, SRL, Hagler fights on ABC I believe, hence my comment...

Yeah, it was a snoozer. I should have saved my 50 bucks and watched the highlights on YouTube.
