I don't usually make too many threads, but I had to because tonight showed us (or at least me) why I love Boxing. All 4 fights on ESPN were just ****ing great, along with the two ShoBox's. The two Cubans, Rigondeaux, and Jhonson showed amazing skills and showed that they may'be future stars for a long time. Paredes settled the score with Hernandez with a KO of the year type knockout (even though it may not even be KO of the day), and then we have the ageless wonder Glen Johnson just rolling over Yusaf Mack in a very good fight up until the stoppage. Then we had the ShoBox fights. Contreras didn't **** around as he did take a step by fighting Castaneda Jr. and he rolled over him in about 90 seconds. In the main event we had Chop Chop taking on Hernandez, and that was a damn good fight up until the brutal KO which will be in the running for KO of the Year. I go back to what I said earlier this is what I love about Boxing. We had great fights, bright stars, and hell all KO's who doesn't love a good KO every now and again? Nights like this is why Boxing will always be one of the more popular sports in the world. A terrific night and I don't see tomorrow being any different. We have two damn good fights on Showtime, LC Abregu-Richard Gutierrez should be a very fun fight, and I can't see how Valero-DeMarco won't be in the running for FOTY. This has fireworks written all over it! :good :happy
Terrific night indeed. 6 satisfying knockouts - a couple of them competitive for as long as the battles were pitched and the rest showcases of sheer skill and athleticism. Auspicious, as the last few months have been a bit of a dark age for the sport. Good thread.
Mate, that a great, positive start to a thread. Too much whinging and sooking goes on, it's refreshing to see a thread based around all the things that are good about boxing, cheers!
I thought the same thing last night man... was a fantastic night of knockouts! I thought most of the matches were pretty evenly matched going in (except for the Rigondeaux match, of course). I must have missed one of the fights on ESPN tho... I only saw 3 then switched to Showtime.
I didn't think Johnson-Mack wasn't going to be that good but thank God I didn't miss it. I agree that it was a great night and as Big George said during Hamed's entrance going into the ring to face Kelley, "This is what boxing needs!". Poor Corley, he needs to think about hanging them up...
A bunch? Two of the six winners were Olympians in their 5th pro fights, wiseguy (Rigondeaux and Jhonson). Glen Johnson, Ed Paredes, Freddy Hernandez, and Francisco Contreras are not, and weren't in with tomato cans. GTFO with your negativity. :good Have a Coke and smile.
