With Enzo Mac winning in Russia Britain now has 10 european champions and potentially 11 with Murray. That means we have 10 fighters in the mix for world honours. Its a great time to be a british fight fan
european title means nothing nowadays. Its been cheapened by the plethora of 'world' titles around today, champion of europe means **** all when a guy with an IBO, WBU or whatever title can gatecrash your party & say, "Im a WORLD champion" If I had a fighter under my wing, I would dodge the whole 'traditional' route, cos its had its day.
I'll accept that, but what the Euro title does is put you in a very strong position to challenge for one of the 4 major world titles, so this is more about potential world success than current.
I think only negative for me is that some of our champions have won vacant titles against relatively weak opposition but it's still a fantastic time for boxing in this country.
Like I said before in another thread, the only Brits I would say are currently 'true' Euro champions are Munroe, Rhodes and possibly Magee.
Yep Euro title has been degraded, and its not looking any better with this new WBO Euro champion belt, too many shitty ways to get to the top these days fight a journeyman for a title and cling to it until you get a shot. Govern bodies should make fighters fight for rankings instead of handing them out to anyone with no loses on there record.
Yeah i couldn't argue with that. I do think most of our champions are worthy but at same time i think of people in past who had to fight some mean ****ers to win a EBU title and fell short. Jason Booth traveled far and wide to win on both occasions and i felt he was on short end of a decision against Makhmutov. Luckily Jason's is now at peak of his powers and looking beyond European level.
That guy Enzo fought looked terrible!!! Whos our euro champs now, then? Audley Enzo Cleverly Magee Barker Rhodes Hatton McKloskey Munroe (vacated?) McDonnell
To me the Euro still has some clout, sure there has been a soft touch or 2 compared to how it used to be but thats because the EBU are keen to keep the titles busy. Also while it may have been easy for Barker Enzo Hatton Audley etc to pick the belt up(I know Audley never won it easy but Sprott aint top10 in Europe), they have serious mandatories in the very near future so it aint an easy title to keep hold of. This is so much better than having a bunch of Intercuntinental WBU WBF title holders, good times
I was merely excepting your point idiot because for a second I thought you were an intelligent human being. Just because this is my first post, what makes you think this is my only account. Anybody can put 3000 posts, it doesn't mean those points are actually anything more than drivel. So thanks again for your really profound comment I never considered the 'noob' argument when discussing the quality of the euro title. Thanks for coming :good
I agree with your thread title but here are my reasons on why its a great time to be a GB fan : Khan Haye Mitchell Froch Brook Bellew Cleverley De Gale Groves Gavin :deal
