What about having double points for the last round of a fight?

    Just been watching the qualifying for the Russian F1. They had the rule change so the last race of the season has double points and therefore keeps interest.

    Could it work in boxing?

    Imagine in the last round of a close fight it was 20 points for winning the round and maximum of 18 points for losing the round and each knock down was 2 points instead of 1. A fight could turn on its head in the last round. The 12th round could become a war rather than holding and time wasting.

    I think that would be an excellent rule, if boxing judges were on the level all the time. Sadly that isn't the case and it would be another way to give the home/featured fighter an edge if the fight and the last round is close.
    Formula 1 is measurable, so it's hard to exploit it to benefit one driver.

    It would probably give some more action though, so it might benefit boxing anyway.

    It might make the final round more exciting but what about rounds 10 and 11?

    Anyway, I rarely find the last round boring.

    For what reason. People wont flock back for that. Boxing needs to find a way back on regular tv so everyone can see it.

    That is an unfair bias against the fighters who start fast. It also may make the early rounds less exciting, as fighters 'save themselves' for the last round.

    What is needed to a degree, and actually is being discussed, is a loosening of ten point must. Bring in a 10/9.5 round for a very close round, rather than 10/10 which at the moment is so often the easy option for the judge.
