He has not fought since 'beating' Holyfield in December of last year. He had 3 fights in 2008, 3 in 07, 2 in 06 and 4 in 05. This is going to be his first fight in 09 and it's already November. Clearly he is a guy who likes to keep busy. He's not the fastest guy as it is and surely this inactivity is going to slow him down further? Of course Haye has been out for a week short of a year since the Barrett fight as well....
good point. haye hasn't fought since november. they've both pretty much done one complete training camp since though and that does count for something. people like to say tszyu was inactive prior to hatton but he'd done something like 3 training camps for sharmba mitchell during that period. out of the past 11 points valuev has had off he has spent 2 (minimum 8 week) training camps getting back to perfect condition. haye has done the same. as long as they have had hard enough sparring sessions then their timing etc will be fine.
was thinking about this today. For a man of such abnormal size and mass, at his age, when he was already slow....I think this will hinder Valuev. Let's not forget he's been training a fair bit this year, as Chagaev-Valuev was called off at the 11th hour.
Me thinks the inactivity will hurt Valuev more than Haye. The Russian can't get any worse than the Holyfield fight and I kinda dout Haye can apply a gamepl;an like Evander and even enhance it. Still not sure about this fight.
Please stop it with these interesting threads. My brain can not take getting even more hyped up about this fight. So excited that Britain may soon have a new heavyweight world champion. **** just realised we got the Sexton vs Rogan fight too.
I've heard Valuev is looking like Sugar Ray Robinson in sparring so I wouldn't pay too much attention to the long lay-off, Ish.
Post of the day...remarkable feat being able to get "Sugar Ray Robinson" and "Valuev" in the same sentence thumbsup
You did it aswell, Ice. What a team:happy! In all seriousness, Valuev's inactivity is something that hasn't even crossed my mind up until now and it could play a role in the fight:think. The fact that I've not heard his anyone mention his long lay-off before just shows that he's not exactly been missed much by boxing fans anyway!
Thats because he is a cancer to the sport - just like when movie stars, American football players and washed up heavyweights (who were trying to follow the 'George Foreman route to the big $$$') were fighting in the late 80's, early 90's - was like a circus act, same with Carnera all those years ago.
with his ridiculous size you have to take into account his age too. being that big takes a massive toll, he might be 36 years old in real time but his body is probably equivalent to mid 40s at least. may hit a wall soon.
