I don't know. Though multiple guys namely I think Machen said similar things as Ali? There is the film itself of Ali fighting Liston and the quit job right afterwards which makes me think it's likely, Though not concrete.

From what I’ve read, post Miami, all other accusations were retroactively applied by previously vanquished Liston opponents. Sonny = Fall Guy.

In support of his claim, I think Machen pointed to his blinking (Machen’s) at some point during his fight with Sonny.

Problem with that “evidence” was, aside from being opportunistically cited retroactively, a Liston jab between the eyes could do that to you anyway - without any illegal substance - including any form of flooring material.

Yes, I’ve read that Liston could be tighter than a Jack Dempsey’s bum hole.

However, I think Liston did one time test positive for varnish in his urine but Sonny and his team glossed it over and said people were trying to falsely paint Liston as some sort of DIY cheat.

Though many agreed that Liston gave Patterson good flooring with a stunning finish. So much so, Floyd engaged Liston’s services a second time and Sonny did not disappoint.
