When i was young i broke my arm and i had a sickness that make my right arm 4-5cm shorter than my left. When i do my training I Find more difficult to connect in one-two combo because of that. I know it's weird but my question is just what advantages have shorter arms on long arms.
Try converting to southpaw. It would give you a little bit of an advantage baiting guys in, if you kept them at the end of your jab, you could pop them with the full force of your far longer straight left before they had time to slip it. Granted that might also open you up to a right hook yourself depending on how long their arm is.
more explosive on the inside, hooks, uppercuts etc Tyson had short arms, can use it to your advantage as an inside fighter. But since its only one arm that's shorter I'd use the shorter arm as the lead, like CST80 said try switching southpaw
The advantage of shorter arms over long arms can be 'strength' in some cases, as well shorter arms can in some cases be easier to maneuver while infighting and clinching.
Thank you guys for your answers. I have to correct myself in my first post : it's my left arm who is longer, not my right. And i'm naturally southpaw. I tried the orthodox stance with the shorter arm as the lead but i loose a lot of distance control, i'm far more exposed, because it's not my natural stance i have difficulties to hit with my right and i think it's just inadapted with my fighting style. You right i find more easy to hit the body in the inside.
Easier to time the power in punches. Finding the perfect range for power. If the punch becomes to short its more of a push, opponent can take a step in and stop the punch before it gets to a powerful snap. if it becomes to long it becomes more of a tap. Opponent take a step back/lean back and ride off the power.
What division are you in and what is your reach? Shorter arms are not an advantage in general but can be on the inside for counters, and body shots as they need less distance to travel to land. 4-5cm shorter is 1.77 inches between arms, which can be problematic for 1-2's, or combinations. Or when trying to cross the jab when your opponent misses. You'd better get your footwork down to overcome this disadvantage and work in-fighting.
Super-middleweight, i don't know my reach my jab is pretty long and i'm tall for my division. I Like to stay at long-mid distance so because of my problem i feel like i'm overusing my jab. Anyway... since two weeks i'm trying to get better in infighting.
