Casamayor knows he can't fight in the inside with Katsidis so he holds. I have nothing against the holding and Andy Lee should learn something from Casamayor.
Seems that many refs are stopping fights too soon. If a boxer is throwing punches, he should, at least, wait until the boxer finishes throwing his punches first. I have seen so many fights in the past that could have been stopped, but were not, ended up being a pure classic.
It was a very good fight. I kind of feel bad for Katsidis taking that shot but he definitely needs to come back.
Katsidis will always be in exciting fights, and will most likely be forced into retirement within the next 4 years. Guy fights so aggressively but he just leaves himself open so much in doing so. I thought Casa was over the hill but he kept a very cool head when it looked like things were going badly for him, while Katsidis kept pushing for a knockout and that ultimately cost him. It's been quite a year, and we're still in March!
Awesome fight. I thought Katsidis had it in the bag then the unbelievable reversal. Props to Casamayor.
Katsidis has been involved with three of the best fights of recent years, Graham Earl, Amonsot and now Casamayor. I think we have found the heir apparent to Arturo Gatti. I'd love to see Katsidis against Diaz, Khan, Gamboa and the other Diaz. Also would be entertaining to see him up against Pacman, if he steps up. EDIT: And Joan Guzman! Jesus this division is HOT!! Who needs Heavyweights anyway?
I was on the phone in about the 4th-5th round talking about how Casa was wilting and Katsidis just kept getting stronger. Next thing you know about 3 rounds later Casa started looking more sturdy, and like the fight was unfolding in slow motion for him... and Katsidis started looking a little frustrated that Casa was still hanging aorund... then BAM, it was over. As I said before, I was suprised the ref let the fight continue after that last knockdown, Katsidis looked unable to continue.
Katsidis fights just like Hatton flying in with no jab although his defence is a few levels below hattons on the inside
It was a great fight, but just a few bugs: Cass fought hella dirty, he held the whole fight, and got warned all of 1 time. Cass used his head a LOT, I mean a LOT, he was a damn billy goat last night. Katsidis stopped going to the body after the shot that put down Cass, he started head hunting the next 2 1/2 rds before getting TKO'd. The body shots were clearly hurting Cass, and after the KD, he almost quit that attack that had got him back in the fight.. it was a very bad move. Cass is a jackass and a *****, but he's a great talent. At times last night he looked like the young Cass and the old Cass, but when he's on, he's a hard win, he's somewhat like a lighter weight Holyfield with the dirty ****.
I'll say it again, Katsidis has a serious flaw where he just doesn't jab at all. You can be aggressive and still come in with a jab lead. His wild flailing made it easier for Casamayor to avoid his attack in many spots and regroup after he would get caught. The inclusion of a jab or two on the way into Casamayor's space would have most likely led to Katsidis getting the KO. The comparisons were to Gatti, but Gatti had a semblance of boxing technique to go with his brawling. Katsidis does not. If he can develop even a rudimentary jab, he'll be formidable.
