Ok, so a news has just broke the the WBA has reinstated Amir Khan as its Junior Welterweight 'Super' Champion WBA Returns Title To Amir Khan in a Strange Manuever? - Boxing News and while no official news source has confirmed this, it has just made me think about what an earth the WBA is doing with their champions and championships. Case and point, currently, the IBF has 16 people they call champions of their organisation, the WBO has 19 people they call champions, and the WBC has 19 people they call champions also. There are 17 official weight classes in boxing and while some titles are vacant, the three aforementioned boxing bodies have 1 champion for each class, with at the most 1 or 2 interim champions. This is very understandable as current champions do move up and down in weight and are anticipated to vacate their championships, so interim champions are neccessary to a degree. However, in comparison, the WBA currently has 36 people they call champions!!! 36 people in the 17 weight classes can say they hold a version of the WBA world title! This is ridiculous. Not only do they have interim champions for almost every weight class, they also now have 'regular' and 'super' champions for weight classes. You can check out the list of current boxing champions for the 4 major organisations here... List of current world boxing champions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In my opinion, the WBA is devaluing their champions, and cluttering an already confusing championship scene in boxing. 4 different organisations calling different people world champions is enough in one weight class, without all the 'regular', 'interim', and 'super' champions! Boxing needs to be unified with one undisputed champion for each weight class. I know that many people consider the Ring Magazine Champion to be the undisputed champion, but that is not an official boxing organisation. Your thoughts...
Homie.. we already refer to every WBA champ not holding another belt as a paper champ... that fact is obvious... the WBA's title has no real value anymore... and anyone can get it with a decent padded record.... real champs don't take belts... they take names......
