lol, look how short Frazier hooks were in the first Ali fight they were awesome, far quicker than the wild, mesy Sanders and his head movement was very hard to land against, Ali got hit far less in the Cooper rematch and was getting better with each fight, Jones blew Griffin away in their rematch using superior power but was outboxed by Griffin in their first bout and wasn`t hit that much because he wasn`t punching much, only throwing out of range jabs, Griffin was nowhere near Ali`s level P4P and far easier to hit.
When he was a lard a$$. When he was in shape - no. Boxed around Bonecrusher Smith, Greg Page and Riddick Bowe when in shape. Actually, he didn't even get hit much by Witherspoon when weighting 244.5 because he didn't stand toe to toe. He was easy to hit against Lionel Butler and Mike Tyson when he, for some reason, stood right in front of them. Part of it was they had the bull like strength to get inside.
I love Joe Frazier as a fighter as much as the next guy. He doesn't belong on the best defensive heavyweight list. Joe may have been a bit harder to tag that he got credit for but Frazier was pretty easy to find. His chin was his saving grace.
Couldn’t take Cooper’s or Frazier’s without going down though. McCall and Chuvalo had better chins and Vitali’s was maybe just as good as Ali’s.
I agree. I'm also going to add one of Hunter's opponents Buster Mathis Jr. I just posted in another thread earlier today about him. Buster was excellent at slipping punches and fighting on the inside. His main problem was that he had no pop on his punches. Watch his fight with Tyson and he had some moments where he straight up made Mike look silly. Hunter beat Mathis Jr. But it ended up being a no contest because Hunter tested positive for coke.
