What does Ward earn in the States? Didn't he get $1.8 million for the Dawson fight? that's £800,000 less with the exchange than what Kessler is making for the Froch fight. Kessler is rumoured to be making £2 million for his upcoming fight. Ward needs to travel imo, not just for the higher payday he would receive in Europe but to actually beat someone outside of the States. Taking Froch or Kessler to school in their own town enhances is legacy imo.
Sarcasm aside, of course nothing wrong with the cards in Atlantic City. A perfectly fair fight, Ward outclassed Froch. But, it would be more of a challenge beating Froch in front of his hometown crowd, because Froch would be fired up and probably perform better. That's not to say the result would be any different. Just more of a challenge. Same would go with any rematch with Kessler in Denmark. I think it would enhance his record beating someone in their backyard with 20,000 crazy fans on the other guys side
A fight with Hopkins is what he needs to get more casuals onto him...beating a huge name that regular sports fans know impressively, or better, stopping him, would fast track him to stardom. I hope HBO wants that to happen.
- The winner of Froch-Kessler II - Golovkin should he move up at any point - Dawson rematch at Dawson's weight - The winner of Bute-Pascal in Canada They are just four fights that I honestly believe can be marketed as quality options for Ward. Do I think he loses any of them? Absolutely not, but they are still good fights for the public and a spin can be put on all of them.
The only person that would be a legit fight is Dirrell if he got some good wins in, its gonna take him ages to get back up there tho
Ward is a little special and doesn't really need to travel IMO. He beats whoever is out there at present simply because he better, others are A class fighters ward is A+ class
That's the thing though - to maximize his earnings at this very moment he would need some kind of angle like going abroad to fight or something like that to sell a fight as worthwhile now - he's cleared out the division and Froch / Kessler have mopped up everything else - fighting mandatory challengers aren't going to generate the kind of interest or money that a fighter of his calibre should be involved in.
