the problem im getting from this tread is people saying we don't have/havent had many world class boxers,we have,**** loads over the years.
just becouse the old usa churn out endless boxers,put it into % per population,it would be ****,how many come and go,are poor world champs,**** loads,how many are elite,a few over the years maybe, not **** loads.
how many fight out of USA,few and far between,they fight each other in there own comfort zone,
personly i think you give us brits a bit of a pounding,for no reason,say we made great britain the size of USA,we would kick some serious ass with the talent that is coming out now,and has come out before,leave us alone:bart

the am boxing gyms are busting at the seams,the pro ranks have talent up and coming,who are good enough win a version of a world title,just like the yanks,just becouse warren aint got em all,them feeding them euro bums,dont mean there ****,:deal

I think you're right, it is largely a numbers game. The US has 300million people, Mexico has over 100million. We compare well to similar sized countries.

Learn from the best.Americans and Latinos are the best.You get their knowledge, their experience and exposed to their training and fights early... Buh...do it early...I noticed that most British phenoms have padded records and have big hype sorrounding them when to go to the U.S. But they have never been EXPOSED TO TOUGH LATINO or SLICK AMERICAN STYLES --- it's too late.It's a lot tougher than they anticipated.That's why they always falls short.The talent is there but not the proper experience.Most of these Latinos and Americans have fought each other and know each other pretty well and they sorta improve one another though regular matches..

Interesting Article about Boxing In State Schools

Competitive boxing is making a controversial comeback in state schools after almost 50 years. Boys and girls as young as ten are learning a full-contact version of the sport in lessons and after-school clubs.

They are taught how to spar and aim punches at their opponent's body and even their head. This is despite the fears of health experts who say boxing is a dangerous and inappropriate sport for youngsters.

Inter-school boxing competitions regularly took place in the 1950s and 1960s but waned because of safety fears.

Now, the first inter-school contests since the mid-1960s have taken place in Manchester and Plymouth, with further tournaments planned, according to School Sport Magazine.

The Schools Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) has trained teachers in 45 schools across London, Manchester and the South-West. More are expected to be coached next month.

In Plymouth, seven secondary schools took part in a competition after teachers were coached by SABA.

Mike Carpenter, of Sir John Hunt Community Sports College, who helped organise the event, said they chose the skilled, full- contact option because pupils wanted more than just non-contact sparring sessions.

He said: 'Forty pupils deemed by the coaches and staff ready to compete were paired up with boxers from other schools according to height, weight, age and skill.

'Over 20 two-minute bouts took place over a two-hour period with all pupils displaying tremendous discipline, courage and skill.'

Mr Carpenter, who plans another competition in December, added: 'If carefully managed, and if the right pupils are chosen, the sport is far less dangerous than football and rugby matches I have witnessed.'

Hopwood Hall further education college in Middleton, Manchester, organised a boxing coaching course for teachers from around ten local schools in association with SABA.

This led to an inter-school tournament in Manchester last month involving six schools including Broad Oak Specialist Sports College in Bury, Lancashire.

The college's Gareth Oliver said: 'The idea of trying to bring back boxing in schools was to dismiss the myth that it was all about brute strength. It is a skill.'

Teachers are coached at SABA courses and then deliver tenweek boxing modules to pupils who have parental consent. Pupils, who wear gum shields and head protectors, score points for using skill rather than heavy punches. Hostile aggression is penalised.

Frank Collinson, general secretary of SABA, said: 'They are learning to take a punch on the nose and at the same time give another punch on the nose.'

Mr Collinson denied boxing was dangerous, saying that in 17 contests in Manchester there was one bloody nose, which healed after round one.

It starts right at the bottom as far as i'am concerned, sadly the majority of ABC's are run by well meaning people/trainers, but who just won't to anyone except themselves too be involved & run their local clubs as personel fiefdoms too be defended at all cost from the encrouchment of anything too do with progress i.e we have a former Lonsdale belt holder & former WBO world title challenger who has just moved too the area & much too my absolute disgust has been totally BLANKED & services not required, UN ****IN BELIEVABLE, the jealous little pricks who are the resident trainers obviously feel that THEIR TURF is being invaded, pathetic is'nt it, i was so embarrased & believe me i'am not one 2 be stuck for words but this really shut me up with shock for all of 5 seconds:twisted:

THERE LIE'S ONE OF YER MAJOR PROBLEMS & it dos'nt help with the amatuer set up, i've always been of the mind that the only diff between amatuer boxing & pro should be the Vest & PAY. DEFEND YER SELF AT ALL TIMES & HIT & DON'T GET HIT. But when young kids are denied the the free benifits of coaching mental & physical from someone who has scaled mt olympus at a national level then the rot starts at the bottom i'am afraid too say:verysad

Your right i've seen it before someone offers a hand to the club and could be of huge benefit to the club but he gets blocked off and the club misses out on some great knowledge.

1. They dont travel no more, early days. They get padded records fighting at home against afro-bums. This is done to maximise money potential. Mexican, Puerto Rican, American fighters are usually form very poor backgrounds and are forced to fight decent opposition from the off, due to the fact that there is so much competition coming from such poor neighborhoods. Plus the standard of low level fighter is far superior in America to that of our own. Fighting in America infront of a hostile crowd would benefit our young fighters even if it were to result in a loss.

2. British fighters do not have enough dedication outside of training. Brought up around cocept that to get smashed out of your head is a cool thing to do, when not training its far easier for them to get drawn in to going down the pub and getting tanked up with there mates, than it is to stay in and maybe have a social drink at home - this is partly down to society in the UK than the fighters themselves, ie-Hatton's 'One of the boys attitude'

3. Sports in schools :deal The British in general just aren't as naturally gifted as they used to be. Fat kids in schools are being told constantly that taking part is good enough. On the annual 'Sports Days' at schools now, they have stopped giving winners medals out because they dont want to alienate the other kids . Its bollocks. Thats why this country has an attitude to love the loser. When I was a child everybody love the winner at school, no matter what it was in. I tried out around 15 different sports when I was a kid and my father used to be involved in a lot of sports when he was young. I'd like to think that I am very good at sports naturally, as I can grasp techniques very well and put them into practise. This will no longer be a trend for the next generation of Brits until they are encouraged to try new sports out and encouraged that they should strive to be the best that they can be.
