He was, thats why he always cried about not getting paid like Tyson . . .cause he was defense first and didnt bring the crowds of a "fighter" like Tito for ex.

Good post. Too many on here think any type of pressure fighter would automatically cause problems for Mayweather. You have to fit a certain bill though. Cotto can conceivable fit that bill with the right style, skill, and ability to beat Mayweather. Yet, I don't know why people assume Margarito is "all wrong" for Mayweather though.

Excellent post, and points I would agree with.

As I already said, I don't believe any old B level pressure fighter would beat Floyd, it would have to be an elite fighter who applies effective pressure, cuts off the ring and lands at all possible opportunities.

thats why i made this thread.... to try to help me figure it out... he has to be one of the most well rounded fighters of all time by far....
ive watched a bunch of fights today and he can
switch up to ANY POSSIBLE style
    &
    Defend any type of style
any fighter who was supposed to "pressure him" got there ass beat... the only fight where this didnt happen was castillo 1 where floyd just came back and proved his point... and he was injured during the first fight also....

i personally think you need to out box him or something.... pressuring him is no good because his defense while being pressured is phenominal ..
you have to outbox him in the middle of the ring or something because every attempt at pressure ive seen has failed miserably for the most part

does this mythical pressure fighter you speak of exist? because i think for the majority of floyds career they tried to pressure him and hes made everyone pay.... chavez tried to pressure him and floyd see's and is able to pick off punches while being pressure and his ability to counter is so outrageous and smart that all that pressure **** doesnt matter....

as far as cotto goes... as much as people say cotto might have the answer for floyd? why couldnt floyd have the answer for cotto?
cotto loves to pressure and floyd in my opinion is the most dangerous while being pressure

cotto has a weak chin and suspect defense
floyd punches with pinpoint accuracy and punches have so much snap that the speed is exchanged for power and they say getting punched by punches you dont see can be the most dangerous thing.....

so doesnt cotto maybe fall right into floyds hands?

i mean nobody will know unless they fight.... if they fight...

and once again im not trying to dick ride but these are things ive seen over the course of the day watching floyds fights

    look
im not trying to say floyd is a god or anything (even though i think hes outrageous)

obviously over time there may be better fighters or guys who would have destroyed floyd...

but today under the current circumstances of who floyd may fight

i just cant really see him losing..... maybe a paul williams could give floyd a lot of trouble... because of his length and work rate... floyd cant counter everything ...

but floyds skill set is rediculous

due to Style, I would favor Cotto and Williams over Floyd at this point in time. i could see cotto just sticking that jab at floyd and back him up to the ropes and landing body punches, which he may land but would probably be mostly blocked by floyd. however i could see cotto winning rounds off mayweather due to
    1. his ever improving JAB
    2. his Underrated Speed
    3. His relentless and intelligent pressure
    4. He is bigger and stronger than hatton IMO

Cotto doesn't have a weak chin. He's been down once against Torres and that was a push. He's been hurt, both while weight drained 140 and at 147 I'll admit, but he has such heart, he can be stunned but nobody can seem to put him down, and Floyd definately won't.

Chavez and Pryor are pressure fighters who would have more than a chance against Floyd, particularly at 140. I would pick Hearns to beat him at 147. There's others aswell. He is NOT the perfect fighter no matter what you think.

Every single fighter in history has flaws, and Floyd is no different, it's just that some have taken risks that have seen their weaknesses exposed, while Floyd has prided himself on belts and that '0' in his losses column, which means his resume is lacking in elite names, and more specifically elite names of a particular style who could beat him.

Call me crazy, and I'm sure many here will think of better words than that:lol:, but Hoya in his last fight looked like the style I see beating Mayweather. That is, if we are talking styles. I don't think the inside pressure works on Floyd but I think a pressure from a fast rangy fighter who will keep busy is what could beat him.

Every time someone says, "We're gonna apply pressure, he doesn't like pressure, we're gonna bully him around the ring," Floyd wins. Floyd has been winning against this style forever.

Over the history of boxing there are A LOT of fighters I'd give good to favoring chances over Floyd from 130-147. Most have seen my lists. Around 30 fighters long.

Nowadays, just Cotto. Quintana exposed Williams for the most part. Even with his rematch, he still showed a blue-print, and Floyd has the countering ability to pull it off, not to mention the overall skill-set advantage. Still, Williams's size may throw Floyd off.

How would Joe Gans vs Floyd play out at 135? Gans had the complete package on the offensive front.

I could see the 1999-2002 DLH beating Floyd at WW or LMW.

I could see Mayweather pecking something out over 12 with the right fight plan. Over longer distances it is harder to pick on account of Mayweather is not proven.

i wouldnt say cotto has a weak chin.. a glass chin... but hes been stung badly several times

    corely-mosley-zab-torres....

every fighter definitely has weaknesses and no body is perfect...
but floyd skill level on defense is so crazy ... i just dont think pressuring isnt the answer... im not trying to say floyd is perfect because nobody is...im just really impressed by how skilled he is...

and im sure there are all time fighters who would beat floyd... maybe even beat floyd easily... but they cant fight him.... so although it would make for a good argument... i just wanna talk about the present..

you are right that floyd definitely hasnt wiped out the hardest competition in the world but hes looked extremely impressive in all his victories.. and im extremely impressed with it..

i think paul williams would give him a bigger challenge stylistically...

i think to beat floyd you have to outbox him and i think because of paul output and length would have a good chance to do that...

never the less though.. this match will never happen

thats why im asking... respectfully... show me these weaknesses...

    over the day.

ive seen him be pressured on the ropes and his defense is just too good
ive seen him in the pocket and his defense is too good
ive seen him fight inside & outside

and he is successful @ all of these

in my opinion he struggles the most when he has to stand with his opponent in the middle of the ring... because hes forces to pot shot and figure out his opponent (which he is successful) but when hes on the ropes theres only so many angles of punches you can throw and i think floyd is totally adapt at defending them... I think floyd enjoys being on the ropes and being pressured because while the opponent pounds away .... floyd adapts to the angles and figures out where his opponent is the most vulnerable then he just pounds away wtih danger single shots.... kinda like someone chopping down a tree
1 by 1 until the tree cant stand

it might be 10 consecutive counter uppercuts to the heads
    or 1 damaging counter hook

thats why floyd doesnt throw to often in flurries.. when he figures out his opponent all he needs to do is throw 1 shot at a time because hes so fast and accurate that over time he knows the opponent will fall.. he never rushes himself... this also enables him to stay safe because while throwing 1 incredible hard & open shot... he can fall back to a safe position until that opening he found is available again

but floyd is absoultely the most dangerous when he is being pressured & stood still

I'll leave you with this. Pep and Whitaker were both better defensively than Floyd, and both have lost before, so why does that make Floyd any different?

You just said Floyd has no weaknesses in your opinion.

Williams is too inaccurate and too open to beat Floyd, plus despite his reach his jab sucks big stylee, and his pressure isn't effective enough, it's just constant with his work-rate and not controlled and timed.
