What Are Floyd Mayweather Jr's Weaknesses?

That was also a pre-prime Pea prior to even winning the title. His prime years were afterward.

 

Pea would win a very very VERY close decision over Floyd, at really any weight.

Pea is definately stylistically a nightmare for Floyd - but NEARLY as much as he is for Floyd, Floyd would be a stylistic nightmare for Pea.

Pea by SD, for me. At lightweight, 140, or even welterweight.



He has the greater resume, though, and warrants a top 20 all time ranking... Something which Floyd's resume doesn't qualify for.

 

Pea would be a nightmare for Floyd because he's such a damn good boxer. Floyd handled Judah quite easily who is a south paw. Demarcus Corley aswell.

 

I agree.

But Floyd would also be a nightmare for Pea. And I still reckon judges had it in for Pea and his boxing style, so Floyd would probably get the benefit of the doubt in some of the closer rounds (hence why I said Pea by SD).

Pea would win, I don't disagree. But Floyd would make it a damn fight of it. He would be able to make Pea miss a number f times, and counter on him with sharp hard punches that would snap his (pea's) head back (something very rarely seen on Pea)... But Pea would do the same to Floyd, no doubt.

 

Probably nobody in boxing was more well rounded. The guy was a pure boxer.

 

Floyd has the 2 inch height advantage, 4 inch reach advantage, and Pernell would be there to be found by Mayweathers right hand. Conversely, Sweet Pea is a master boxer that can not only throw a high volume of punches but has a fabulous connection percentage. I.E No wasted punches like Oscar de La Hoya. I'd pick Floyd by SD or razor thin UD. I feel Floyd would over power Sweet Pea on the inside, while Sweet Pea style would hinder him today in not being visually appealing to the judges.

 

I think his style would be much more appreciated today than in his time to be honest, given the appreciation for performances like the ones Mayeeather has been turning in, where he dominates an opponent but does so in not such an exciting way, such as the Baldomir fight. Watch Pea vs Santos Cardona and see how he'd deal with a fighter of that caliber.

Also, Floyd may be a bit longer, but he was not sturdier than Pea, who had very thick legs and was rarely muscled around even by his bigger opponents. Hell, he out-did Chavez on the inside and you think Floyd out-does him? Pea was one of the most skilled inside fighters of the era. Floyd is as well, but I don't think Floyd presses a fight as well as Pea.

Also, even with the height and reach advantage, Floyd does not have the better jab from the outside.

Pea is strong as hell and has a solid core. But floyd is faster and definitely has a quicker release on his punches. That would be a dream fight to watch especially if they mixed it up on the inside. It just boggles the mind on what would actually happen in there.

 

Floyd beats Chavez on the inside if they fought. Watch the 11th round of the first Castillo fight to see Floyd outclassing Castillo on the inside, with one hand.

 

Julio cesar Chavez. Not jesus Chavez. Floyd hit Jesus Chavez with so many clean uppercuts I thought his head was gonna pop off.

 

Castillo beat Floyd over the second half of their fight on the inside. Floyd may have shown good accuracy and countering through it all, but he was outworked and overall outdone in that regard. I hate to bring up punchstats, but they always seem to hit home with Floyd fans, as they;re generally some of you guys's biggest weapons. Castillo threw more, landed more, and landed at a higher percentage according to punchstat in that fight, so your theory is not supported.

Not to mention, not only was Castillo neither as strong or fierce on the inside, but definitely not as technically skilled as Chavez.

 

It isnt a theory. Its a cold hard fact. Go back to the tape. If you dont have Floyd winning the majority of the championship rounds I dont know what to tell you or what you are watching. the 11th round him and Castillo are trading on the inside and Floyd rocks Castillo and wins the exchange. Again Floyd is hurt during this fight, yet still able to hold his own. The compubox statistics were so elaborate in Castillo's favor because they were obviously counting shots that were falling against Floyds arms and elbows.
