The right uppercut vs Weaver. What else?

I'd struggle to think of an example of concussive KO power, he was much more of an accurate/volume puncher, think he's about 65% ko rate, not the rate of a heavy handed fighter. Still, stopped more than 40 opponents...that's more than most have fights these days.

Weaver, Frazier, Ocasio, Cobb, Cooney... Mercer didn't like eating Larry's right, it always snapped his head back.

He's pretty short of them. He hit Frazier with right hand after right hand after right hand and he was still standing. A heckuva lot of his stoppages saw guys still on their feet. Just about all of his stoppages were TKO's.

What he was extremely good at was wearing guys down. He'd keep the pace up and stop them thru class and workrate. Snipes wasn't easy to get out of there but Holmes turned the trick. He used to keep the heat on guys and if the opportunity arose he still had something in reserve to finish them off.

Tbh, aside from the uppercut, I think calling Holmes power even average would be a stretch.

He usually had to hit people a lot of times to get fights stopped.

Yup. This is why i disagree with the whole "Holmes hit harder than Ali" although i don't want to turn this thread into that debate.

I knew you were thinking that mate. When he wanted to punch Ali was crisper and more concussive as these threads will show.

    Interesting threads too.
