What are opinions on Ricky Burns now

For me.. still way too overrated on here only because he's British. But fair play to him, he's doing really well right now :good

I still wouldn't say he's "legit" because there's about a dozen guys around his weight that I think would beat him. But if he continues to be managed well then who knows how long he can carry on this good run.

 

His reign has been disappointing??? Why? Beat a heavy favourite in Martinez, stayed active defending his belt & stepped up to take out katsidis.

His reign is only disappointing to ESB brit forum haters, to the rest of us? rickys done pretty ****ing well!

 

Well again it all comes down to who's doing the rating. To be honest, I probably am underrating him because I didn't think he'd beat Katsidis or Martinez (I thought Kats would be better though..) On the flip side, Dunky is clearly overrating him :good

I think I just got sick of hearing Adam Smith say "and what a season for Ricky Burns"

 

To be honest I would say he's where I thought he was, although he has gone up in my estimation a bit more. I always felt he would potentially have more problems with Broner than Katsidis, due to style, and even though I felt he'd probably lose to Kats, I still give him a very realistically chance, simply because when all said and done Kats is a straight ahead kind of fighter, and Burns did! have superior physically dimensions to control and dictate provided he used them.

Keeps proving me wrong so I can't say much against him

Biggest surprise for me was how well he looked as a lightweight looked even bigger than Kats that night.

 

I would of preferred he fought Broner in the states in front of a big audience, rather than Katsidis who has lost 2/3 of his last fights in front of hardly anyone.

I don't know why ****** seems to protect him, he doesn't need it. Stop talking about Crolla and Mitchell and fight some champs!

'Interim' is not a world title.

 

Neither is a 'full' WBO champion.

 

It wasn't Frank protecting Ricky Burns. It was Frank protecting himself. He wouldn't have been able to afford to get Broner over here and therefore wouldn't have made any money out of the fight.

Hopefully Broner defends his world title against Evensen, Laryea and Nicky Cook when he wins it tonight anyway. Let the new reign of terror begin!

 

No way am I overrating Burns, its a travesty that after 75% of posters here said Katsidis would destroy him that now this victory is being overlooked just like Martinez.

FFS, Katsidis floored JMM heavily but couldnt put a dent in Burns. TWICE Burns has been backed here to lose heavily, & TWICE Burns has put on a boxing masterclass to beat the guys who were supposed to destroy him.

Burns has shown hes the man, people need to take their fingers out of their ears & open their eyes, cos Rickys not going away!:smoke

I love how some people seem to react to whatever some bull**** title is called.

You could fight for the WBC Silver title against someone decent and get slated for it whereas an easier WBC title gets more praise.

Or someone will get more recognition for winning that belt than another title holder who had a harder fight to win the WBO title for example, just because the belt's not green atsch

It would of been American exposure, beating Katsidis after his beatings mean little now sadly. Guerro totally beat him down. Broner has hype behind him, spanking a undefeated yank prospect didn't do Calzaghe any harm.
