1. Wilder 2. Zhang 3. Ruiz Jr 4. Chisora 2 5. Takam I rate the Wilder win as number 1 because Parker was an 8-1 underdog and he was considered past his best after losing to Joyce. It was a one sided win for Parker so for me it's number 1 I don't see how you can rate it as number 4 TBH.
Well after the 3rd fight vs Fury Wilder knocked out Helenius in 1 round who went on to give Joshua a pretty rough fight for 7 rounds and Helenius only had 6 days to prepare for Joshua. No one prior to the Parker fight was saying Wilder was past his prime and plenty of people on this forum were giving Wilder a real chance of beating Joshua. Wilder was a significant favourite over Parker on this forum and in regards to the betting odds. It was a one sided win for Parker a shocking upset in which many thought Parker was done after the loss to Joyce. So for me it has to be number 1 due to the dominant nature of the victory and how much of an underdog Parker was. Parker was knocked down twice vs Zhang and the Ruiz fight was a razor thin decision that could've gone either way so they rank lower for me.
1. Andy Ruiz MD12- You never forget your first time. It was close, but Parker won it, imo. He was behind early but pulled ahead to become the WBO world champ. The high-water mark of his professional career. 2. Neon Deon Tay UD12 - Whooped him good & in doing so became the first New Zealand H/W to be clearly better than any H/W from North America at the time. Not a bad effort for a guy from a country as small as New Zealand. 3. Big Bang Zhang MD12 - Dropped twice (Kiwi down!) but did enough to eek it out. Adds an Olympic silver medalist to his Olympic bronze medal scalp. 4. Derek Chisora (2) UD12 - Did a better job on him than first time around. 5. Carlos Takam UD12 - Hard fought (close) win against a live opponent at the time. Honourable mention - AJ. The 'win' here was reaching the front of the queue against an undefeated 'prime' AJ & collecting a career high payday. Couldn't knock off the full complement of Olympic medalists but performed credibly & won some rounds on my scorecard. In summary, not a bad overall body of work. It's testament to his longevity that he's probably regarded more highly now than at any time in his professional career. I'd prefer to see him in with Usyk next rather than Dubois but they've probably decided he can't afford to sit out any longer.
I agree. He's a shell of himself after two brutal beatings and back to back KOs. Also being 38 years old, those fast twitch fibers he relies on for his KO power are likely gone.
This actually shows how bad his resume his. Imagine if Fury's resume looked like this: 1. Zhang (40+ years old, dropped twice) 2. Ruiz Jr (one-hit wonder) 3. Chisora 2 (old and shot, double-figure losses) 4. Wilder (old and shot version) 5. Chisora 1 (old and shot, dropped) Parker's best win is probably old and shot Wilder, since only Fury had beaten Wilder before and Parker took the least damage. But he took the least damage because Wilder was done.
A late bloomer. Not an average 40 year old. Zhang was coming off his best career wins prior to Parker. He is a 40 year old who has taken a low amount of damage in his career. The more damage you take, the faster you age. Usyk is the best in the world at age 38. So Zhang being 40 isn't a big deal. He was in his prime when Parker beat him. Dropped twice? Who cares. Zhang is the hardest hitting southpaw of all time (except maybe Sanders). He has the kind of power whereby even guys like Holmes would probably be dropped by him. Southpaws are notoriously hard for orthodox fighters to defend against. I doubt Fury could beat Zhang without tasting the canvas at least once. Parker beat a prime highly dangerous Zhang fair and square.
One thing Parker has to get immense credit for is fighting everyone - Joshua, Ruiz Jr, Chisora x 2, Joyce, Zhang, Wilder - dude does not shy away from a challenge.
The nature of the wins aren't very impressive either. Had Zhang been slightly younger he'd have knocked Parker out. If he fought Ruiz anywhere but New Zealand he would have lost. Chisora is seen as a no mark on Fury's record but not on Parker's apparently. Apart from one flurry he barely landed anything on Wilder either.
