i read it myself but have found the response here quite negative. so i was wondering does anyone here read it? and if not, why do you not? (hatred of the product, haven't gotten around it etc.)
It's what it is, a magazine. It's a good read but it isn't the bible of boxing anymore. It's champions are no more respected than say the champions of the wbc.
I'm a subscriber and I have no complaints. I know people complain about the rankings and politics and stuff but hey, its the only monthly out there. Good feature acticles and monthly stuff. Lots of fight reports. I think some of the changes they have made have turned out ok. I like it
I like the previews for super fights they do a good job with presentation I dont like the rankings i will say ive never subscribed but my brother used to but he stopped as he felt the magazine was starting to deteriorate in quality he said the articles got shorter the pictures got bigger and they added dumb themes in the magazine, he said he felt it was dumbing down and getting childish
Putting aside the rankings. I think the quality has really dropped since they changed a lot of the staff early last year. There is usually a good few errors in each issue and the whole thing seems to have been dumbed down. Still has the problem of being way behind what is actually happening such as the Pac/JMM preview issue coming out after the fight happened.
I'm a loyal subscriber, but I hate how many errors there are in each issue (grammatical and otherwise), and how late the information is. I just got my latest issue in which they cover the JMM win over Pac....
I just read the articles and rankings on the website. Never bothered with the actual magazine. I just wish they hadn't altered their championship policy. It was better with unifyin three belts, 1 fightin 2, or 1 fightin 3 to make a champ.
The whole problem with Ring (and magazines in general) is that by the time they hit the shelves, they're already well out of date The internet really has ****ed magazines over bad Still bought the current issue tho, and love it :good
It's great. I don't see why I would hate on a magazine related to the one and only sport I love and follow, especially not the most famous/historic magazine of all.
I love the articles, but ever since Oscar has had power over it I don't agree with the rankings. Last, time I checked I think Broner and Canelo ranked too high. But their his 2 stars so not surprised about that.
I vouched for the Ring as recently as the end of 2011. 2012: The Year The Ring Rankings Officially Died and Became Corrupt -vacant #1 P4P for most of the year, tie for #2, even after Pac loses to Bradley -kick Huck out of CW rankings to allow Cunningham/YPH II for vacant lineal title; while being hypocritical in the way they omitted Huck then reinserted the next week -Garcia vs. Khan for lineal title when Matthysse is clearly better/higher ranked than both -Salido vs. Garcia for lineal title when John is longest reigning titlist in all of boxing and still dominating -randomly rewriting the top 10 P4P and including Guerrero and Broner even above Donaire -122 pounds, one of the deepest and clearest top 10's, they manage to have a horrible list going at the moment Utter garbage rankings...
The Ring Magazine has always been a tool to glorify and give exposure to American boxers in a diss-proportionate and corrupt manner.
