    Marciano-Frazier.

I've always given the edge to Marciano, but I still think it is too close for me to ever bet money on if a time machine is created.

    Jersey Joe Walcott-David Tua.

Joe would have an easy time outboxing him, but Tua has puncher's chance.

    Floyd Patterson-David Tua

Floyd could make Tua look awful, but all Tua needs is one left hook....

Prime Mike Tyson (1985-1989) - Prime Lennox Lewis (1997-2002)

This one could go either way. My money would be on Tyson to knock him out, but Lewis could hurt Mike with those dangerous uppercuts (like he did in the first round of their actual fight) Could go either way.

Joe Frazier (1971) Lennox Lewis (2002)

This was Joe at his absolute best. However, I think Lewis might go out there and get rid of Joe early, ala Michael Grant, Andrew Golota, etc. Lewis always bombed out opponents he felt threatened by. Then again, Smokin Joe was an animal in his prime. No way could Lewis take those left hook counters and body punches. Could go either way...

Mike Tyson (Prime) Evander Holyfield (Prime)

I think Tyson would win this, but Holyfield always had Tyson's number and took his punches well. I'm on the fence.

    David Tua (1996) - Mike Tyson (1996)

Could go either way. Tyson wasn't at his best anymore, but this one would still be interesting. Tua would have a chance against this version of Iron Mike.

Tua has a puncher's chance against Barbados Joe, maybe...but Jersey Joe? :blood

In the same sense that James Smith has a "puncher's chance" against Jack Johnson, I suppose...

Usually I feel an edge to 1 fighter even if by a narrow margin, and am willing to go out on a limb and make a pick even if i wouldn't feel comfortable wagering (I am not a betting man anyway, mostly because I can't afford to lose!!!) on the outcome. But there are several fights for me that fall in the range of this...particularly:

Roberto Duran vs JCC...I just feel that there is very little seperating them, and that the strenghts of both play to the advantages of the other, nullifying and negating them. I posted a thread on here a while ago and Duran was far and away the consensus choice (not that I really value that!), partly because he is Roberto Duran and wins every mythological fight he is in...it was the idiotic answers you would get like Duran, by assault...by brutal destruction...by murder...by ****...ko1..ko 2 and the sort that you have to sift through to get any analysis at all. Duran wasn't bombing out any of the top teir guys in less than 6 rds, so I automatically dismiss anyone who picks that even moreso if the words assauld, homicide, murder or **** are included.

Here is my analysis and picks of a few months ago, and I still see it as this close..for those who only want to voice an opinion without backing up why I closed it by using the words brutal assault!

Why not? Jersey Joe was man-handling Marciano until he was caught. If Marciano could knock Jersey Joe dead, you know Tua could. However, unless Tua succeeds in catching him, he's gonna get schooled by Jersey Joe quite easily. That's why it's fight that could go either way. Same thing if Tua were to face Floyd Patterson.

I know this is a tad bit off base, but a friend and I used to play "Fight Night Round 2" non-stop with epic heavyweight slugfests between Marciano and Frazier. We'd make it late into the fight, each man's face looking like hamburger, slinging hooks, and the result was 50/50. He'd either drop me or I'd drop him, but all the time it was nerve wracking. Now we still play Fight Night (on Round 4 now...), but I prefer an old school stance so I'm usually trying to be like Charley Burley (that's who I fight as despite the fact he's a "create-a-fighter") in the ring while my friend picks Hagler. Now, instead of slugfests, we have boxing matches a purist would go nuts over. So now it's Burley vs. Hagler and I usually win late via TKO (usually on cuts).

In all honesty, the recent 'Liston v. Holyfield' issue still has my brain wracked for a clear answer. I'm leaning towards Liston, but I don't feel I've done enough research to make that sort of call.

Duran vs. Arguello, that's a fight I'm unsure of.

I'd like to think that Duran is too much of a natural talent for Arguello, but **** man...El Flaco Explosivo. It's like a fair version of Duran v. Hearns. Instead of Duran going up against a guy that's naturally built for the middleweight (and higher) crowd, he's up against a legend that could meet his caliber and weight class.

Duran would have eaten Arguello for breakfast.
