Now I've watched quite a lot of great fights on YouTube and in the past I've seen that many fights seem to take place in the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, there must have been something in the water up there as that place seemed immune to having boring fights and they seemed to put more emphasis on the lighter weight fighters. Does anyone here know of any great fights that took place there that are worth seeking out to watch?

Nice collection of quotes here on what it meant to fight at the Olympic:

    http://www.theboxingbar.com/the-olympic-auditorium.html

My recollection of the televised bouts we got from there (early ESPN before it was more corporate and had tie-ins with promoters like Arum carried some bouts iirc) was that when a particularly good fight ended the crowd would shower the ring with coins, which would be swept up and divided between the fighters as a bonus.

On the other hand, if a fight was a stinker some in the cheat seats would urinate in their empty beer cups and shower the ring to show their displeasure.

Wild times and one of the greatest of all fight venues. I’d love to have experienced it.

Maybe not on the night of the Lopez-Castillo, Duarte-Gomez double-header. The Mexican crowd would cheer for Danny but if he was fighting a Mexican national, their loyalties shifted. Well Danny blew out Chucho in 2 rounds, which put the crowd on an unruly edge. Then Frankie Duarte got a very close decision over Famosito Gomez, which angered them to the breaking point. A few things were thrown and something hit Frankie in the head and he went around giving the "Up yours!" sign with his forearms, which set off the crowd into a chair-burning spree, which terminated the card before fire and police arrived. You gotta admit though, it was colorful.
