For me Fernando Vargas losing to the Payaso Mayorga. Vargas would have whooped Mayorga prime for prime.

I mean to be fair he was absolutely massive at 160 and cutting to his limit. I wouldn't be surprised if he walked around at 190 or thereabouts in his middleweight days.

Seeing Barrera in there against guys like Khan was depressing.

The size disparity was major in that fight.

It devastated me that a fighter I long loathed Miguel "The Gimp Killer" Cotto ended my personal favorite fighter Maravilla Martinez's career, but at the end of the day, as much as I may dislike him, Cotto is a first ballot hall of famer and it was apparent to everyone that Sergio was compromised beyond belief. So there's really no shame in that. However, Cotto being beat up, staggered repeatedly and dominated by glass jawed flash in the pan Sadam Ali, will go down as one of the most immensely pleasurable sad endings to a career for me.:D

He performed a whole lot better against Berbick than he did Holmes.

Martinez is lucky that was Cotto and not Golovkin. That would have been an actual tragedy. But that's the fight that should have actually happened, at the very least it wouldn't have been as humiliating for him because he could have saved some face passing the torch on to the next generation. Instead he cherry picked a tiny Cotto only to be betrayed by his bum knee. I don't really have much sympathy for him in that instance despite being a big fan.

I don't feel that bad for Martinez, because he can still close like a bank teller. A lot of these other guys didn't have that level of attractiveness to fall back on. Now, you wanna talk sad, look at how Hopkins had to retire after what Pavlik did to him.

I thought the exact same thing as I watched the Jake Paul fight.

Seeing Kovalev’s career pretty much ended by a smug cheating grub like Andre Ward after getting robbed by the judges then getting his nutsack rearranged. Then he fights Canelo while clearly compromised it was sad how corruption chewed him up and spat him out.

Kovalev's was pretty bad. If he wasn't EE there would be a lot more sympathy from 'boxing fans'. He was done in by the corruption in boxing which is different to continuing to fight in your forties etc when everyone has told you to stop. He was still involved in these choices obviously and I don't feel sorry for him for making a fortune being a prizefighter but from the point of view of his 'boxing career' it was a pretty ugly.

AJ's end was also quite sad, getting destroyed by someone little Usyk stopped with a jab. Dat gotta hurt, yo!

Some would say Stevenson fought one fight too many also. I disagree. But I can imagine his fans would be disappointed.

I was worried Jake Paul's career was at a sad end after the Tommy Fury fight, but it's good to see he bounced back and destroyed an ATG American HW even easier than the MMA strikers he faced.

Because as you stated, the outcome may have been tragic, I've never had a problem with Martinez ducking Golovkin. Sergio knew that he was not in any physical shape to step in the ring with GGG after coming off of such a serious injury, so I can understand him taking what he thought would be a big money PPV fight as a cash out, hoping he still had enough to beat a diminished Cotto, and then retire. Sergio proved he had balls all throughout his career, so I don't begrudge and can forgive a cripple preferring what he hoped was an easy touch, instead of a surefire human sacrifice/suicide mission on his way out of the door.
