What are some of the underhanded/exploitative/infuriating things that PRIDE did?

A few times they were too reluctant to stop fights when a Japanese fighter was getting pulverized.

So we have fixed fights, officially-protected champions, organized crime involvement, rampant steroid use, racist judging/officiating, anything else?

And are any of these accusations inaccurate?

This is what's hilarious about all those anti-Lesnar fanboys who chant 'Vince McMahon' or 'WWE' at Dana White. Pride was an explicit continuation of Japanese pro-wrestling. From the emphasis on tournaments (New Japan's heavyweight belt is the International Wrestling Grand Prix which originally was originally the prize for an annual tournament), homegrown heroes (Takada and Sakuraba), foreign monsters (Cro Cop, Wanderlei), bringing in outside specialists (New Japan pro-wrestlers, K-1 kickboxers, Sumo, etc). Hell Antonio Inoki was even the figurehead of early Pride FC.

It seems ridiculous to me as well.

All you ever hear the likes of scurla do is talk **** on the UFC. It's all Zuffa is Hitler and Dana is Himmler, and PRIDE was just so great all the time, and sucking on Wandy and Cro-Cop's nuts. :sad

What about the rest of it? FIXED FIGHTS? Can you IMAGINE the frenzy that scurla would be in if the ****ing mafia was sitting at the negotiating table with Dana and Brock? :patsch

How much of a conspiracy theory is this stuff though? I listened to the Rutten and Rogan podcast but I was half asleep and fell asleep before the end, so I can't remember what the **** he said.

Didn't want to make my own thread so bumped this extremely old one.

I watched Pride 15 last night and have to say this looked so blatantly fixed. First fight on the card was Valentijn Overeem vs. Assuerio Silva. Was a good contest until it went to the ground while they were there Silva grabbed a hold of Overeems heel and basically put on the slowest heel hook I've ever seen. I know Reem was wearing shoes and all but he didn't even try get out of it. For someone who was a "leg lock master" you'd think he would use his head and know he was in deep ****.

    Anyone else seen this fight?

Seems very similar to sumo wrestling,in which there have scandals about match fixing and allegations of Yakuza involvement.

Recently, a bunch of sumo wrestlers were forcibly retired because they had been found out to have taken dives in exchange for cash.

    The Coleman one is funny.

    "He's got the neck crack"...

    ..."why did he let go?!?!?!"

"He's got side guard, bad position for Mark Coleman to have you in"...

..."why did he move INTO Takadas guard?!?!?!?"
