What are the all time top selling US PPVs in fights without Americans?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Crax Sellerman, Jul 14, 2010.

  1. Are Pacquiao-Cotto (1.25 million), Pacquiao-Hatton (850k) and Pacquiao-Clottey (725k) the top 3? Which fights come next?

oh ok sorry. i shouldve read more closely

  7. Why? He was born in and still lives in Puerto Rico.

I'd count Clottey before Cotto, although I believe the consensus is that Pacquiao has never fought an African-American fighter so we can't have it both ways.

Yes true but Puerto Rico is American territory. American Currency and all.

  11. So is Guam. Doesn't make it the US.

When Puerto Rico gets a star on the flag we can talk.

Do you know who the president of Puerto Rico is? Barak Obama. it has nothing to do with the star more to do with the playing field. If the question is who is the highest grossing non-american PPV star. Don't you think A guy like Cotto who belongs to a territory of America, has a pre-established Tito/PR parade fight night, has an unfair advantage? I think being from PR is easier to be established in the USA unlike a little asian guy. Your fan base is already established, you don't really have to build one.

  13. Puerto Rico is an "unincorporated territory" of the United States which according to the U.S. Supreme Court's Insular Cases is "a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United States, but not a part of the United States."

Can we dead this ridiculously stupid argument please? Puerto Rico is not the US.

Haye v Valuev reportedly did over 800k buys in the UK. You can't really compare it to American PPV though, as Sky box office cards are generally priced at £15 ($22) rather than the $60 that HBO charges.

EDIT - My bad, didn't read the part where you wrote top selling US cards.

  15. That wouldn't be comparable at all, as that's 800k PPV buys in the UK in a bout featuring a UK fighter. And I'm looking for US PPV buys from non-Americans here.
