Of course you can hit the gym and do..... Shadow Boxing Heavybag Pad Work But what are the benefits of sparring ? What does it add to your training in terms of overall fitness / condition / ability ? In other words........ Why spar ? I do some shadow boxing - bag work - pads - speedball - But currently dont spar - and havent done so in a number of years. I'd like to know the benefits of sparring to assess wether it is worth taking up sparring again ?
Sparring is the only way you'll actually learn how to fight. Bags hardly move if at all and don't hit back. It's much harder to throw a technically sound left hook when there's a live human body in front of you trying to hit you and not get hit themselves just as hard as you are. It's also much harder to catch your breath when focusing so much on the task of combat put in front of you than it is to throw routine combinations or skipping rope. Bagwork, conditioning, and shadowboxing are all necessary compliments that will contribute to your sparring, and your sparring will contribute most to your ability to fight.
learning to control you're aggression, adrenalyn , learning to fight in general, bags dont hit back, they don't counter or anything. They don't think, they don't learn like people
If you don´t spar, you can´t fight. It is the closest thing to the real thing. bags won´t hit you back.
You use what you mentioned to build the fundamentals you need for boxing, you use sparring to improve your fudamentals and develop a style you are comfortable with
it teaches you how to use your reflexes, how to position yourself to block, how to counter, how to hit. it's all practice for the real thing. if you aren't concerned with fighting amateur or pro I guess you can do without but it's hard to use the skills you've been practicing CORRECTLY if you don't practice them against a live body
Seriously? atsch Well i you were serious just search it on Google.. you'll get a better result than what some of these people say. But seriously?atsch
yeh in rocky 4 he did no sparring, unless him and paulie had few rounds that i didnt see. But still managed to ko ivan klitchko.
silly silly question! best way to learn is by doing (sparring) the more you do it the better you get, how do you know how well you can take a fully loaded right hand if all youve done is punched a hard bag. come on man is this a silly question, sparring is so important its hard to explain just how important it is, it conditions you and toughens you up, theres so many positives from sparring that you cant list them all
If you are competing in any shape or form this is just silly! Sparring is the only situation where you can practice the skills you learn through everything you've listed in unpredictable circumstances!!
If you have to ask this question, then sparring is not for you. It hurts, and is not necessary for general fitness & weight loss. You can stick with bags and drills for that. Sparring is for people who really want to learn how to fight, and don't mind the pain. Having said that, sparring/competing requires a greater level of fitness than what you already do, so if you enjoy sparring, then your motivation and conditioning should increase partly cuz it's exhausting and people tend to increase their conditioning in order to hang with your sparring partners. So the greater effect is not standalone fitness, but your motivation to improve.
