He doesnt throw enough punches, especially when a target is moving. He does apply pressure, but its more a pressure from being in your face, not due to punch volume. And I'll give some more credit to his stamina, but if he had to work as hard as I think he would to corrall Mayweather, I think he would tire late, especially because he sucks down a lot of weight and has such a stocky build. When have you ever seen Hatton tired before? **** he was starting to fade by the 6th round in his bout with Floyd. You ever box Relentless? And I don't ask to be a ***** or diss you if you havent, but stamina is one of the first things you realize is a whole different issue when it comes to boxing/wrestling.
in the collazo and urango fight, and oh yeah i have boxed, but i dont see wha that has to do with cotto's stamina?
LOL. You ever try to track down a "cutesy" boxer? In both of those fights the only time he slowed down was when he was hurt. In my opinion that is.
cutesy/ if you mean a pot shotter? then yes, but that isn't as tiring as throwing punches. cotto is like the much better version of castillo, with faster handspeed, the ability to box and adjust to most situations.
I've explained it before, apparently you did not take the time out to read it which is all good. Its strange that I would have to point out all the ways but then again I'm not in the position to judge your observation since I don't know how involved you are in the sport. I've been in the ring and have trained, sparred and educated myself in the sport. Now this is to be taken lightly only because in boxing and any other combant sport its the slightest of movements, timeing and fortitude that can make a difference in a fight. I'm going to keep this simple: Hatton's foot speed and distance closing was nullified by PBF's ability to meet Hatton at the 3/4's point of his charge therefore causing Hatton to smother his own attack and settle for useless attempts at pop shooting PBF from a distance which the majority of the time where lunging sporadic attempts. Cotto has the unique ability of jabbing his way in while slowly and technically closing the distance without allowing the opposition the ability move and position themselves into a stage of comfort. Cotto is a fine boxer and in Puerto Rico Boxers are taught to use movement only when needed sort of like a shooting guard in basketball utilizing his dribble only to create. Cotto is also naturally larger, more technicall sound and extremely fluid in his counter punching and combonation punching. Every fighter Cotto has fought at WW has had a reach advantage yet Cotto seems to be the one that lands the more telling/accurate blows. Why because Cotto understands his limitations and exploits the other fighters weakness. Now I feel Cotto will lose to PBF at the moment by SD because of lack of pocket exchanges, but the more I hear fans preaching Cotto has less of a chance than Hatton the more I learn towards Cotto. Cotto's deception will most likely be his key to victory.
While you point out Floyd's ability to catch him on the way in a la the now infamous check hook at about 3/4, Floyd would catch Miguel about half way. Yes, Miguel has a good jab but its not as long or accurate as DLH, who abandoned his jab after getting countered silly. Now, Hatton comes into the pocket much quicker than Miguel, and Floyd was able to catch him after a few rounds. Cotto, while better at ring generalship, has lesser footspeed and I think will have a harder time controlling the distance that the bout will be fought at. Cotto also throws far less punches while moving than Hatton tends to, needing his feet planted. While planted, Cotto does throw much more fluid punches, combinations and counters than Ricky, but I don't think he'll have the time to set up against Floyd. While forced to move a lot against Mosley, who didnt have the stamina to do it for 12 rounds, Cotto didnt land anything too effective. When it comes to head movement and hand positioning, there are also slight differences with Miguel and Ricky. Ricky holds his hands tighter together than Miguel, which is why the hook was more effective for Floyd than the straight right hand, although both were pretty effective the other night, the two most telling blows in the fight were left hooks that ironically almost both put Ricky into the turnbuckle. I think that Floyd would land the straight right much more effectively against Cotto than he did agaisnt Rick because Cotto holds his hands more on his cheeks and temples than tight on his chin like Ricky. Both fighters utilize little head movement IMHO. I've boxed amateurs, trained and am a newly licensed referee so we can get as technical as youd like. But I'll keep it simple. If Paulie Malignaggi can win 5 rounds against Miguel Cotto, Mayweather will win 8-10.
No, it really wasn't. Guru doesn't understand the jab, and he doesn't understand angles; therefore, he doesn't understand boxing, and nothing he says should be taken seriously.
More time to think against Mayweather is dooming. Period. And I'm not the only one who feels this way. Styles my friend, styles. Your boy Berto will have a better shot in two years too.
**** off capfunds. "Berto's chin is not an issue" And I don't understand boxing? Are you angry that you Ambiton and Carlito dont have Margarito circle jerk parties or something anymore?
