What are the excuses if Joe took Dawson and won?

I mean seriously. We already know everyone now considers Pavlik a **** fighter after Hopkins dominated him, having been beaten, out hustled and out thought by Calzaghe.

Jones Jr, well, definitely no where near his prime but then Calzaghe isn't either.

If Joe took on Dawson, beat him convincingly, what would the excuses be? "Oh, but Dawson lost against Johnson anyway so it doesn't matter, Calzaghe is still poop"

Realistically, Calzaghe is 37. He's old. It's hard to keep living this life style especially when retirement enters your head as it has done for him ever since Kessler.... he's got to get sick of being told "You must beat Dawson" when everyone said "You must beat Lacy", "You must beat Kessler", "You must beat Pavlik", "You must beat Hopkins"

I'd rather see Roy take on Dawson, which isn't going to happen but I'd love to see how Dawson fares against the Roy that Calzaghe just dominated.

None. Just like there werent any excuses when he beat Lacy and Kessler. He would get more respect than beating these old fighters.

Dawson was an overrated, china-chinned hype-job. He was exposed against Glen Johnson, Calzaghe once again preying on bums.

What do you mean excuses lol? IF he fought Dawson. I would give him respect as a great champion. But seeing as how he chose to fight Jones instead of a top up and coming champion, he gets no respect. What so hard for you to understand? Was Joe not a 5-2 favorite? Was Joe not the overwhelming favorite in this fight? Was Roy jones not shot to **** since 4 years ago?

Sorry, we arent going to suck Joe off because he beat a shot figher. Get over it.

Lacy has never been called overrated since their fight and no one ever called Kessler one dimensional and/or unproven did they.

There won't be any excuses because that fight won't happen.

Say what you about Dawson, but I wouldn't consider Diaconu the best LHW or a great fighter. He's a solid B level fighter, that's it.

Joe needed to fight a young Hopkins or a prime Roy Jones. If he fights anyone else he will always get stick for it to some degree - unless they turn out to be great - thats the way it works sadly.

Prime Hopkins and Jones were the two men of his era - he never fought either.

First of all, personally I don't give Joe much credit for the win over Jones. Roy has been shot for many years, Calzaghe is past his prime, but nothing close to shot, he's still at a pretty good level and tonight's fight proved all that.

IF Calzaghe fought Dawson and beat him, I'd give him all the props in the world. Seriously.

But imo, he doesn't need to fight him. Joe is a great fighter, although I resent his fighting style, he has my respect. He's a good champion.

This is the correct answer. The fights that Calzaghe has gotten **** for he's deserved it.

If Joe took on Dawson and beat him convincingly it would be the best win of his career, up there with Kessler. This whole situation is funny for me, i feel im pretty objective on the issue. I thought Calzaghe beat Hopkins, i thought Calzaghe would have beaten Pavlik and Pavlik fans needed to shut their mouths (pre-Hopkins dismantling). But this win doesn't prove anything, it went as expected, with Roy sitting on the ropes and throwing rare counters whilst having his guard pounded on (like he did at times against C class fighters in his last three fights), Calzaghe's high work rate simply being too much for Roy to compete.

Don't expect to see Roy fight again, it can only end badly.

Let Kessler beat the **** out of Dawson and let Calzaghe retire.

The_What right on the money as usual. No excuses, Joe would get a lot fo respect if he beat Dawson. it would increase his legacy and he would grab 2 major belts from the LHW division.

This win did mean nothing for Joe, I agree with that. But it wasn't meant to mean anything. It was a final shindig for some cash against an entertaining legend he respected in the "home" of boxing in MSG.

But when you already have 25 title fights and you've won every single one of them, there isn't a hell of a lot left to do except keep fighting until you lose and Joe is getting to the age now where that will happen.

Coming off the canvas in both fights and having the balls to go straight back to putting the fight to the opponent was special, but beyond that, Jones Jr was shot and not the same fighter he was 5-6 years ago.
