The US media would say either....

    1. He was a bum to start with.

    2. Calzaghe fought a fighter who was still to green.

Calzaghe will never win. He could beat on Captain Kirk and still get no credit.

JOnes is past his prime. He is not at his peak. But he is not shot. Shot is when you are really out of it. His two main assets have deminished a lot: speed and skill. :thumbsup

He is over the hill but not shot:good

None...it would be a legitimate fight but it won't happen cause Dawson is too much of a challenge...and has too much for joe...

I agree. He is well over a very tall hill, but he still has very good speed/reactions and power, his two main assets.

well, some americans want to hate on calzaghe but even you calzaghe fans have to admit, jones vs. calzaghe and hopkins calzaghe should have happened a long time again instead of it happening when all three men are near retirenment but that isnt calzaghe fault. with dawson, he is the best young lightheavywieght in the world. a winover dawson would be better then jones and maybe even hopkins at this point.

I think a win over Dawson would be better than a win over Jones, sure, but I don't think it would be even close to a win over Hopkins...

Hopkins tested Calzaghe like he's never been tested before, something Dawson couldn't do simply with his speed and combinations from the outside.

hopkins is way more accomplished then dawson, no argument there. but boxing is a young man's game. hopkins and jones dropped calzaghe in the 1st and did very little afterward. you get a young hungry fighter like a dawson and after a kd they looking to do damage. especailly when calzaghe has been dropped before and had shown to be resilient, you need youth and hunger to combat that.

Dawson wouldn't KD Calzaghe, mate! He has no power to do that and he wouldn't take Calzaghe by surprise either, with his punches, IMO.:good

Dawson would do less well than Kessler did...he might even get stopped because Calzaghe wouldn't be afraid of his power and his chin wouldn't be as good as Lacy's say...

Calzaghe wide UD or late TKO...imo.

dawson has more power then u think. really, its who left, calzaghe has beaten the people that the public has been complainig he not fighting and dawson is right now, the most dangerous fighter at lightheavy. who else is there?

Dawson has B level power; no more. Even Pavlik has better power than him. B level power has never worried Calzaghe...nor should it.

Reid, Mitchell, Kessler, Jones...they all had more power than Dawson, to name but a few.

Dawson could only win by getting on his bike and powder-puffing from the outside. He's not good enough to keep Calzaghe off him, though. If Hopkins couldn't do it for more than a couple of rounds, Dawson definitely couldn't.

I don't want to sound like some of these arrogant know-it-alls we have around here, but in this case, I think Calzaghe should be seen as the strong favourite. :good

Dawson IMPROVED A LOT after his fight against Johnson. He showed it against Tarver. He showed better defense and most importantly he showed that he can fight a back and fourth fight, particularly when he's losing a round. Dawson fixed a lot of his mistakes that were evident against Johnson, he's ready for Calzaghe because he prepares himself better. Fighters improve as time goes by, this is the case with Dawson.

Calzaghe is smaller than Dawson, and as good as his chin is, he can get hurt when he gets hit flush. Dawson will be throwing lots of combination's, and there will be plenty of chances for Dawson to counter-punch, and Dawson is a very good counter-puncher.

Dawson can hurt Calzaghe, Calzaghe won't walk through Dawson's punches like Johnson did.
