I happen to watch both event at the same time. And I realize that boxing is really getting boring. You can just tell when a fight will lead to a boring decision. I find myself simply paying more attention to what's going on in the UFC event. In an MMA fight, you know a fight could end brutally in just seconds, it doesn't matter who's fighting. And that anticipation is what keeps you on your seat. In boxing, you can't get that feeling unless you are watching a prime Tyson or Pacquiao in the ring. I think this is what will make MMA a bigger sport in the future and once the striking of MMA is on par with Boxing, it will be all over for boxing. So anyone got the numbers for both events?
I can enjoy watching Mayweather only for technical purposes though. He is an unbelievably skillful boxer and you can learn a lot from watching him. But in terms of excitement he's not really up there. Where I'm from no one could find where to watch Mayweather fight, everyone was playing UFC that night, I wouldn't be surprised to see really close numbers.
IF the numbers are close that is really a bad sign for Boxing, they have 2 of their biggest P4P stars fighting that night.
atsch Are you ****ing kidding me? How is the striking EVER going to be par with professional boxing, where boxers solely dedicate their time to the sweet science? Are you that ****ing brainwashed?
Striking is more than just boxing though. I would take some MMA guys over the same size boxers in a pure striking match.
He didn't say once their boxing was on par. He said once their striking was on par. Striking is a hell of a lot more than just boxing. Most of the beautiful pure boxing technique is rather useless in an MMA fight. Are you going to shoulder roll a double leg takedown?
mayweather marquez is reporting to doing the million mark, ufc i would say 600,000 max and thats their bs numbers remember they dont have to release their REAL ppv numbers
I would say that the majority of the kicking in UFC is far below the level of muy thai, Taekwondo, and Kyokushinkai. Jack of all trades master of nothing. But, in respect to UFC fighters, their well-roundedness is respectable. If you're trying to brag about them it is best to point out their strengths. They don't even come close to the punching of boxers or the aforementioned kicking. I would say the stronger point is the grappling, which is probably a comparatively higher average skill than the striking but it is still well below that of elite Judoka. And I wouldn't expect it to be. There is simply not enough time in ones life to master all things. Floyd mayweather spends all day on boxing. To even assume someone who spends a lot of their time doing muy thai or BJJ even comes close to a high level boxer in punching ability is sheerly delusional. Not even in the same category. Same can be said for kicking.
