Seeing so much praise for Fury has been nice in the sense that people are excited for a modern HW and pushing back on the historic stuffiness in boxing that stifles its present. That said, it's kind of hard not be skeptical of his GOAT status. Beating a guy nobody respected on his second go does not sell me on his invincibility. The idea he beats every HW ever belies reality. Even Rocky Marciano would've lost if his contemporaries weren't so comparatively weak. So what does it take to beat Fury? 1. Southpaw: Otto Wallin landed the left straight on him time and time again. Of course, there are precious few southpaw greats at HW. Bakhodir Jalolov is prob the best hope in that department in the current era. He's still green though and Fury probably will not stick around forever. 2. Size: Size matters. Fury is the biggest competent HW in history. Wlad was big. Lennox was big. That seems to be the way this weightclass is headed given it's the least stratified of any other. Wilder is 6'7 and Fury still had 40-50 pounds on him. Fury seems to be using his size even more effectively in his 30s with less fresh legs to carry his massive frame around. With a Steward protege coaching him, that trajectory is unlikely to change. At present, Joshua is the big man in the triumvirate. 3. Body Work: Nobody has landed very many shots on Fury in a fight. Some were gunshy like Wlad, some kept whiffing due to his head movement like Wilder. The obvious solution to the latter is to target his body. Who are HWs likely to do that in the current field? Ruiz and Whyte are both known to bang off hooks in combination to the midsection. So what do you guys think? What are some angles to look at regarding Fury's skillset?
1- pianeta southpaw- dealt with easily on his weight loss tour. Joey Abel, glass cannon- big power in his left. Dealt with. Wallin southpaw. Problems were cut related. 2- yeah he’s big, but he’s not nearly the hardest hitter. There have been larger and heavier heavys who haven’t touched his success. It’s skill. Imagine Joshua coming in at 273, he would gas in 3 rounds 3- body work. Easier said than done. His jab is superb, especially kronk jab. Furys also got an inside game weaknesses loss of focus and fighting to an opponents level he never seems to get shorts that fit You never know if he is gonna show up in shape or in the wallin fight over trained lacks true one punch power, USS probably got the worst. Went bald in his 20s
I’m joking. But since you’re upset - can be chinny but good recovery as Iv never seen him do the stanky leg - average power - can look sloppy and flick jabs are visually displeasing - he could be beaten on the inside by AJ, AJ could match his strength and has a superb uppercut.
I mean his profile pic is him drinking with Fury. You've gotta back your boys, if you don't your a shitbag.
Not upset at all. Thank you for trying to answer the question this time. Just predicted a lot of pushback and wasn't surprised. I wouldn't call him chinny. He got up from two full power Wilder bombs. Not sure any other HW is doing that right now. His power is average but you can't exactly take advantage of that. His style is built around emphasizing other stuff. Everybody is sloppy. Inside is a good call. Don't have much faith in AJ's given how Parker took his uppercut away from him. Fury also is willing to be dirty. He straight up mauled Wallin and Wilder leading with his head, pulling on necks, etc. Again, he's the biggest. Not a good idea to play into that. Somebody like Usyk has the footwork to evade his bumrushes and the punch selection to punish him on breaks. Of course, Usyk looked rather declawed in his HW debut when a fighter wouldn't give him a lot of activity to counter. Fury fights are all low volume.
It's not like he was hurt. He didn't even take a count. Cunningham didn't really hurt him either. Some fighters get dropped a lot but do not have bad chins.
That's cool. I'm just saying he's proven otherwise. Not really pertinent to the discussion of how to beat him going forward.
