Build a time machine & place Vitali in an ERA you think had great fighter's...
In REALITY, There is nothing that can be done about his current comp.
(Bottom line, IMO Vitali is the best HW around today, Including Wlad)

Who he beat don't matter, You will find a hole regardless...
Better question is WHO is around?

    1) D. Williams
    2) Peter
    3) Arreola
    4) Sanders
    5) Kirk Johnson

He absolutely has a weak resume, but it is what it is. Part of it is lack of decent competition, but part of it is that his brother has generally faced the tougher available competition.

    This is correct, IMO.

Briggs will be in there and possibly Solis (probably not top 5) and Valuev.

He will have about 10 or so solid victories before he retires.

Has there ever been a hw champion that has had a title defense that was a KO win that was 40+ years old?

I think Vitali could be the first ever. That would be a pretty cool feat to put him in the record books.

Vitali's come back after four years off, stoping Peter winning every round was very impressive. He will beat Valouev, if Valouev ever fights him. He will beat everyone else even after age 40. I hope he does not retire for a long time.

It will be kind of hard for me to limit myself to only 5 wins. So here is my list in no particular order:

    Herbie Hide
    Obed Sullivan
    Orlin Norris
    Vaughn Bean
    Larry Donald
    Kirk Johnson
    Corrie Sanders
    Danny Williams
    Samuel Okon Peter
    Juan Carlos Gomez
    Cristobal Arreola
    Kevin Johnson
