AJ is definitely the favourite but I suspect guys who think it will be an "easy night" are delusional. Though not on AJ's level, Wallin's power is probably underrated, he hurt Gassiev in their fight. He also has shown tactical versatility. He fought on the backfoot v Gassiev but looked to chase Fury down (with much success) in their fight and he looked highly disciplined with both game plans, which is not AJ's strong suit. AND Wallin seems to be able to raise his level of performance to meet the man in front of him which could make him easy to overlook.
Wallin’s willingness to engage could be a problem if Joshua chooses to fight tentatively and tries to outbox him, this could see a scenario where Wallin is out landing Joshua whilst putting away rounds and wins a UD. I think Joshua puts an emphasis on going on the attack and meets Wallin head on, I think he’ll wear Wallin down and knock him out in the latter half of the fight.
How has Wallin proven has has a higher ring IQ that AJ? Aj has a good ring IQ, he just doesn't have the same level IQ as the likes of the Klits and Usyk. AJ's chin is underrated. AJ has never really been knocked out. He was TKO'd vs Ruiz due to a lucky temple shot. He took a massive shot from Wlad and survived. The only advantages I see Wallin having is Age/Stamina and maybe confidence. Joshua is a better boxer than Wallin is. Who is Wallin's best win? Gassiev? Who made a big mistake coming up to HW.
Joshua is by nature a dumb meathead brawler who thinks he's a cerebral boxer (but on some level knows he's not). Examples of his low ring IQ include trying to brawl with Ruiz and trying to have a 12 round chessmatch with Usyk. He's not especially adaptive and needs to be pre-programmed in training camp. He asks bouncers for tactical advice before going into fights because he lacks confidence in his ring smarts. Wallin is much more intelligent than Joshua and the success he's had has come in large part from being able to box intelligently, not because he's a powerhouse offensive force. Joshua doesn't have much confidence in his chin/punch resistance, hence he looked scared of his own shadow vs Franklin and Helenius. The fact that he got dropped four times and quit in 7 against a fighter who couldn't put a dent in journeymen like Liakhovich, Kevin and Arreola (and those are three of Ruiz's five best wins) is strong evidence of shoddy punch resistance. As is the fact that he hasn't got in with a bona fide puncher since 41 Wlad in 2017, where he went life and death and was there for the taking for about 5.5 rounds. Joshua's best win came 6.5 years ago and his only win since then which I'd rank as better than Gassiev is Povetkin in 2018. There's been a lot of water under the bridge since then too.
Joshua is not dumb at all, he's definitely a lot better than average, he's just not ATG quality. He can box well, he has a good jab if he uses it. He could easily UD most in the division, just not the absolute best.
Too much diss on AJ, too much hype for Wallin. If Joshua delivers anything short of a demolition job, I'd be shocked.
Wallin doesn't look like a bodybuilder from the start. He isn't wearing baby oil, and isn't posing for the camera's either! lmao
