Of course you should always be trying to improve in all areas of boxing, but is there one area that you are spending extra time on in your training right now? Perhaps you are really trying to improve your left hook, or your head movement, or your conditioning. Tell us what you are working on, and we can post advice, or videos of drills that can be done to improve. Help each other out. For me it's my footwork and throwing combinations. I have difficulty moving forward and finding my range so my punches often come up short, which leads to me just lunging in behind one big punch. I can throw combinations no problem when doing pads with someone, but I get messed up when trying to throw them on a moving target. Trying to improve my hand/foot coordination so I can get better at punching while moving.
Trying to counter after being hit more often then not when im hit once ill put the gloves up and just cover while I take 4-5 punches then when my partner lets up then ill then start moving forward. If im going to get hit I only wanna be hit once then be able to throw back with a good shot instead of covering up and letting a guy go to town. Overall my counter punching isnt one of my best attributes.
right now im fighting on Saturday and i have been working on moving to my right after combos to set up my right
Ring generalship mainly. Getting the jab working and making others play my game while I stay relaxed and in control.
Beat her up Amy! Broke my nose in sparring today, so I'll be working on not being too confident and walking into things for a while. And if I do commit against a taller person I will cover that protruding knob of mine :!:
I know, it was dumb. The guy I sparred is a middleweight at least and quite a bit taller, to land a right hand I need to really commit to it otherwise I will miss. So I really committed, and stepped into his right hand. Second time that happened with the same guy, last time he gave me a shiner on the left eye. He's really fast and counters well but I really thought I outsmarted him this time atsch
Defending against the straight right hand. My defense and countering has gotten better all around but im still a sucker for the right hand.
I'm working on mostly my defense, particularly timing the other guy coming in and using my jab. I'm taller than most guys my weight, (5'10'' 152lbs), so the defensive jab is a big weapon for me. I'm pretty good at catching the jab, but I want to improve on slipping the right hand, or hooks, and countering from there.
Right hook to the body from the southpaw stance. My left hook from the orthodox position is okay, not great but I'm happy with it, I can't get to grips with hooking from the opposite side for the life of me, even though I feel comfortable throwing other punches from that stance. Any help/ideas?
I'm a lefty but fight Orthodox. I feel so much more comfortable jabbing with my stronger hand and hooking, as the left hook is my favourite punch. What's your natural stance? Use whatever you feel your more cormfortable and in control at, then start practising the hook. Btw, what gym do you go to?
Iv only been boxing for 6months and its 2 hours a week at a boxing gym so im working on improving everything obviously. But the main things i really really need to improve on is staying relaxed and breathing. Sounds silly but its the thing i get told the most. Been told i have v. good technique and power for a beginner. But when i get in the ring sparring im too tensed, gas easily ect. I find it so annoying because i need to really sort it out but its a very hard thing to work on i find. I think im relaxed then someone shouts from my corner to relax and breathe and i realise how tense i am to the point where i must be appearing that way lol. Just more and more sparring is needed i think to get used to it. Its getting better just need to stick it out! Good thing is i dont feel like im going to get a beating everytime i spar anymore and if i do i know i can give a bit back!:good
