What are you expectations concerning Amir Khans future?

    Amir Khan turned pro in a blaze of glory.

    The 17 year old Olympic hot shot.

    "Well I decided I wanted to be a World Champion more than a Olympic
    Champion"

    and

    "By the time the 2008 Games come around I will be a World Champion by then"

    Said Khan as he changed his decsion to stay amateur for the 2008 Olympics so that he could upgrade his Silver Medal to a Gold Medal and turn pro instead.

    (Even though there was no guarentee he would win a Gold Medal in the 2008 Olympics but Khan talked about it as if it was some kind of guarentee)

    Eventually Khan bowed to the pressure and tempation of the professional game.

    And on sigining with Frank Warren became a instant millionaire and celebrity.

    The Golden Boy Of British Boxing.

    Khan saw winning a World title as a formality...............and wanted a World Title by the time he was 20 years.

    After his first professional fight he said

    "Not long to go now".................regarding becoming World Champion.

    Early on in his career he looked like he was going to be right.

    He blew away inferior oppostion in sensastional style and looked a really classy operator and powerful.

    After only a handful of fights he was straining at the leash and begging Frank Warren to let him fight the Worlds best :nut

    He wanted big names like Manny Pac .........even as a novice pro :lol:

    He bragged in a Amercian Boxing Magazine he could even then at that stage beat Floyd Mayweather over 4 rounds :lol:

    "He's even better than Naz"............said people over a pint.

    His only blemish was a flash knockdown to some tough experienced bigger guy in probaly his toughest fight to date.

    But it was nothing to get too concerned about.

    He was then on the front of Ring Magazine..........the hype was growing......

    But upped in class the wheels loosened and then came right off.

    Willie Limond and Bedis Presscott exposed Khans fatal flaws.

    Its easy now to call him a china chin exposed fighter.

    But remeber how lofty his expectations were and how many people believed.

    Remeber how classy he looked.

    But what now...........where will his career go from here?

    If you believed the hype he would be undipsuted Champion by now.

    It has not happened...........not even close.

    But what will happen to Khans career in the years ahead?

    Will he become World elite like he said he would?

    he will be world champ but expect him to lose it a few times.he needs to get rid of the family arounf him and advice they give him.

    I think he either loses to or beats a past it barrera. He may just be fast enough to stay out of the way but my head keeps saying Barrera knows too much and will melt him like a chock ice on a hot day.

    Presuming he gets by Barrera, he fights Arthur for the vacant title and I think Arthur wrecks him... however presuming he gets by Arthur... Prescott or another puncher will beat him before too long. World class boxers get hit, a lot... and he hasn't got the beard to take it.

    I'm not reading that shitty format of text.

    My expectations are he'll get knocked out very shortly. I'm 50/50 as to whether it will be against Barrera, or soon after.

    Yep eventually he gets starched in spectular fashion again. As Jeff pointed out, world class boxers get hit a lot because they fight other world class boxers on a regular basis. You can't be at the elite level and not get caught. If he's getting stuck on his arse by Limond and Gomez (no disrepect to the two boys but they are hardly murderous punchers) then 99% of decent level lightweights are going to have at least the potential to knock him out.

    Good post, well put.

    I agree with Jeff, he beats Barrerra(big if), Arthur beats him convincingly in my book.

    He will at one stage win a world title and be a top contender in a very weak light welterweight division in the future though.

    He's got that vacant look on his face that tells me he still hasn't learned a great deal since Prescott.

    It's the same look Theo Walcott has got. Something that tells you thay they won't reach their full potential.

    Nice post Flint Island! I particularly like the part about him being better than Naz over a pint HA!

    I actually have a feeling that he will beat Barrera...whom is well past his best and fighting at a very high weight relative to his size. Do I think he will fufil his World Title ambitions? No. As others here have said, that china chin will be his undoing ala Herbie Hide. It really is that bad. The fact that he has a terrible defence and a limited offense (head hunter) doesn't bode well either.......

    Furthermore, he plys his trade in the talent rich 135 divison. Can I see him beating the likes of Juan Diaz, Nate or JMM in the immediate future? Can I heck. And while the latter two are likely to age and retire in the next few years, the former will b around for quite some time to come...

    Ironically, his best chance to win a belt might be to go to the comparitviely shallow Junior Welterweight division. Even then, I can't see him getting past the best in the division....

    To cut a long story short, his china chin + mediocre defence = losses at World Class level.

    I suspect European honours is his limit.
